Will they copy the edit history implemented by Facebook?

Even if this feature does become available [whether on paid or free Twitter accounts], I don't think it's gonna be of any use to me since I always delete when I misspelled or did something wrong in my post...

If they do not show edit history, then it will be as what others feared... Post something that will gather attention and likes, then change it into something controversial and without [Twitter] notifying those that liked the tweet that the original content got modified...

Also, there should be a certain period like within 5 minutes or less you can edit the tweet once posted but beyond that you will have to delete and post another tweet...

Take corporate interests out of social media. Which country will be first in making social media development (or anything pertaining to communication between humans) exist independently of corporate interests, profit or politics.

They have us clapping at the implementation of minor features every 6-12 months that they meticulously studied for as long, determining how much it would effect their bottom line (profit & clicks). Instead of having a body of tech developers passionate about technological communication developing tools that help us communicate better and implementing the features people would like to see immediately without it having to go through the corporate “will-it-profit-us” tumble dryer.

Twitter is a cesspool, edit button or not, avoid it for your mental health.
Twitter is actually a good tool to use for following major occurrences like hurricanes and other natural disasters. You can create lists that post information from Twitter sites you trust and specify. It takes a bit of work and research to setup a good list, but it is well worth the effort. But I agree, as a social media platform it is a cesspool!

As some have said before, I see this as something potentially dangerous.
With how many people are currently deleting their bad takes and pretend they never existed, with this they will get a tool to change their bad takes, (might) keep their likes and retweets that are often seen as endorsements, and therefore get the means to distort conversations.

I’m not even sure if having the unedited tweet linked to the edited one would make a difference. It seems that a lot of people ignored the misinformation warning, too, after all.

The bigger issue isn't not being able to edit what you've written, it's the default "reply to all" combined with it being not at all obvious to whom and to how many your response will go. Add to THAT, given the economy of words you need to use, context is GONE. So someone 7 or 8 tweets back will read something NOT directed at them, NOT understand what's being said, WILL completely misunderstand it all, and we're off to the races with responses going non-linear.

If you go on Twitter to argue with people or try to change their minds, you are spot on.

If, however, you use Twitter to get multiple perspectives on a topic in the shortest amount of time, it's totally unbeatable and an incredible resource.

Really bad idea beyond editing something you posted within the last few minutes (typos)
100%.

The edit tweet feature opens up a totally new abuse vector that Twitter need to be EXTREMELY careful about implementing.

Twitter is the Fight Club for people who have a public image, so can't punch someone IRL. Its best for humanity that it dies soon. Hope Elon would do the needful. Or maybe he can take it to Mars and introduce the ugly side of democracy to alien life forms.

I just started using twitter and couldn’t figure out how to edit a post. Little did I know that you can’t and it boggles my mind why. Most basic of feature for a platform that needed it day 1

It should lose them because it’s not the same tweet.
I guess that's one way to look at it and in that case maybe it's not needed. However, I do edit my posts here all the time and it would be a bummer if folks lost their responses because I chose to delete my post in order to fix a typo.

The original iPhone went from a concept to working demo in what, 2 years?

And yet Twitter need a full year to internally test an edit button. Why are they moving so slowly?

Better to leave original posts and have updated posts linked or something.
Or have the most up to date version visible first but a clear visual indicator that it’s been edited, with edit history visible.

Couldn’t agree more.

I love that Elon is doing this. Not just the edit button, but the Twitter take over (and that is what this is, make no mistake--he's not a "passive" or "casual" investor).

It's nice to see a market based solution to Twitter.

I wonder if people will still scream "bUt iT iS a PrIvAtE cOmPaNy!" once they no longer like the people in charge.

Popcorn is out for this!

thanks elon!

The only thing worse than Twitter is Reddit, tbh they’re both equally awful, and best avoided
they are both very toxic. i stopped posting on twitter around 2009 and gave up posting on reddit a couple years ago. i use them both mainly to keep up to date with stuff. that's about all they are good for.

Twitter, the thing I tried once, years ago and deleted it immediately. The most toxic, horrid entity on the planet that has caused slightly more hurt, division and degradation in the human story than Facebook. I don’t go on either and would rather throw my tech in the bin than use them. Both owners are total scum and deserve prison, not praise.
