Take them back before your 30 days that's ridiculous, especially if you paid unlocked price no way I'd be back up there

We exchanged the first two in-store, I kept the replacement that was acceptable and my wife kept the one with chipped edges (she doesn't care and was pressed for time).

I hope this is sorted by next year. I am upgrading from my iPhone 4 next year, and I try and take extra care of my expensive devices.

So not only is there a Scuffgate again, they are limiting stock on-hand to mostly to the defective space grey color. Hopefully this is not the norm for most of the space grey that has been manufactured.

Did Apple state space gray phones were defective? That's a pretty quick turn time for them to admit to some flaw.

I would want my phone to be damn near perfect, that is for sure.

How long did it take Apple to acknowledge the chipped slate iPhone 5 phones? I think we'll need to see a consistent stream of chipped space grey phones before Apple will acknowledge anything.

That is my point. You're saying they're defective and they know this so they are limiting stock when in fact, Apple isn't limiting stock at all because of any "defect".

I'm not saying there will not be an issue, just that I don't think they're limiting stock because of it.

I guess I didn't write that quite like I meant to. I meant that the stock on hand is mostly the space grey color, which happens to have the defective chips on some models. I agree that there will have to be more instances of these chips for Apple to declare it officially defective.

And so "Scuffgate" returns! Hopefully my Space Gray 64gb (AT&T) doesn't arrive like this, I'd be rather upset.

It should never have been called 'scuffgate'. The damage is being done during production and passed along due to less stringent quality control. The aluminum will dent easily, especially during production, handling. They just needed to pull the scratch/dented devices rather than package them up. Should be called Sloppgate, sloppy QC practices.

Bought a sim free 32gb Space Grey today and it had a nick on the chamfered edge.

They replaced it straight away. The second one is perfect, although the sleep/wake button is a bit rattly.

Same problems as the 5. Nicks on edges and rattly sleep button...I'm gonna inspect my room mates brand new 5S after work, and see if there are any nicks. He wouldn't notice them, I will.

You'd think this would be fixed for the 5S. Well, maybe I'll wait for the 6 after all.

Sell me your phones. When in the office, my mates and I like to play hackey sack with iPhone.

I hang around the iPhone subforum since yesterday, but I noticed all you do is making fun of OP's and trolling...

What is your problem, wrong pills today?

Just saw the thread and checked mine with an LED flashlight and turned on my 'nit-picking' mode and thankfully found nothing on my space gray 64gb. :)

Yeah I want a pic too.

Scuff for some, unpolished spot for others.

I'll update with photo when I can but it's, well, exactly like the thousands of pictures of chipped IP5s; it's not glue, unpolished metal, etc. They are deep, (below the anodization) chips and scratches in which the bare aluminum is visible and reflective.

Anyone else with any dents or scuffs out of the box? Seems a lot better then last year! hope mine arrives dented/scuff free!

seems like this was the case with the iPhone 5 upon its release, Phil Schiller mentioned before it's typical for aluminum just ain't typical to be receiving a brand new product bent up liked that.
