Two More Studio Display 2 Upgrades Leaked in New Report

Just move $10,000 into checking to be ready. You might be able to return a little to savings after acquiring a new monitor…..
 
Good luck with 5K @ 120hz. You need a RTX 5090 for that atleast.

Mac's are way too weak to game on this type of resolution and FPS with modern games.

Mac's don't have GPU's like a RTX 5080 and RTX 5090, it's useless.

People on MacRumors really believe they can hit 240hz or 480hz at 5K resolution on their Mac's ...

Things are improving now that AUO and BOE have joined LG in manufacturing panels, including gaming units with high refresh rates and high-zone-count MiniLED backlights.

Haha you'll be lucky if they even offer a stand to purchase separately to attach, bet that's a built to order option still...

But there are a LOT of 6K monitors now, so I believe it'll be 3000, maybe 3500 tops. A 1000 to 1500 premium over a 27" model is enough I think, any higher would be VERY tough to justify even for Apple. They will then make a tandem OLED Pro Display XDR replacement, who knows maybe with pencil support and a stand to allow it to lay flat?

It’s the #1 reason I want an Apple display. For those of us who make “face over” green screen content (training, lectures, etc), it’s the ideal combination of camera placement and convenience.

I have many nice cameras. Webcams are convenient but the positioning tends to be finicky; especially if you frequently adjust your monitor position between “working” and “recording”.

Real cameras/iPhone have great quality, but there tends to be some extra setup or restrictions on positioning.

If there’s no (good) built in webcam, I won’t buy the new display. If there is, I’m willing to spend thousands of dollars.

Fair enough, but the most common screen resolution for pc's is still just 1920 x 1080. And there is a difference between an "improving" market and a market Apple wants to get in. Still argue the PC market for an Apple 5k is a very small market indeed, and the primary need for a HDMI is to attach a non-Apple device. Sure there are exceptions, but apple doesn't market to exceptions, with is what my point is about.

I honestly don't know if this is performative, or if you just don't understand how capitalism works.

All of your anti-Apple, anti-Cook posts are from some bizarro world where Apple is losing money and marketshare and customer satisfaction due to intentionally punitive pricing, that only you (the brave forum-dweller!) are able to detect and denounce.

Apple's customers are happy. The fact that you are not means that maybe you shouldn't be an Apple customer.

A 32" option is the only reason I would ever consider upgrading from my current two Studio Displays. I have all the original packaging, but resale is a hassle I dont want to go through.

I agree. I still find the idea of two 27" screens sold literally side-by-side in Apple stores to be very strange, no matter how different their internal specs may be.

But the code names for both are J427 and J527. Hard to think one of those is a 32" display. Will be very interesting to see what actually gets released.

The only reason I can see a "different model" is if they incorporate a full Thunderbolt 5 hub into the display, because that would increase the cost like $350 anyway. It would also be designed differently.

Apple should just make this in the base model, but they don't like absorbing any costs and not maintaining their margins.

I realyl want a 32" but the model numbers don't make that seem possible.

I think the 90hz will be if it is connected to a Thunderbolt 3/4 display, and 120hz if Thunderbolt 5 due to bandwidth issues.
 
J427 = TB4, with whatever max refresh rate 40Gbps supports, likely 90Hz, better webcam - slight upgrade to Mk1.
J527 = TB5, mini-LED, 120Hz, daisy-chain TB5 port, TB5 hub, upgraded surround sound system, two camera system, etc. etc. ++$

Both still 27-inches. Apple likely knows that the current model is still a fantastic display for most people, but needs to offer better value at the current price range.

I imagine the Pro Display XDR will get an update around WWDC, but with a new enclosure that's cheaper to manufacture than the 3D 'honeycomb' tooling from the Mac Pro. OLED seems like a given at that higher price, too.

The market is currently flooded with lots of third party 27" 5K LED right now which lead me to believe Apple intends to abandon LED completely which is why the panels are probably being allocated to third party now like ASUS..etc. Also 165hz 5k MiniLEDs from third party are coming out so almost certainly we are going to get a 27" Mini LED Studio Display.

We might get a 32" version that supports the additional I/0 controllers and larger speakers in the leaked code and Apple finally kills off the current 32" XDR.



My guess is we either get two models or one model;

27" Studio Display Mini LED - starting $1999(the original one came out in March 2022 at $1599 which is $1810 today so probably even higher given the current world economic conditions with brand new panel tech)

32" Studio Display Mini LED - with more I/O and better speakers starting $3999?(hopefully)


^^^I'm almost 100% certain at the very least its a 27" Mini LED and the current 32" XDR is gone. Maybe we get a new 32" Mini LED thats at least puts it in range for more folks.

No matter the specs, or even design differences, they will both still have a 27" display that to the casual eye will look like the same product. It just seems like it will be inherently confusing.

There aren't two "differently designed" versions of other Apple products with the same display size. There aren't two 14" MacBook Pros or two 11" iPad Airs to choose from.

Love my studio. The camera is actually very nice for Zooms etc, much simpler than anything else.
Good upgrades would be:

— 120 Hz, of course. Although I work nicely with the 50Hz we have.
— TB 5 HUB with TB5 downstream would be a major update, basically would save me 400€ for a hub
— hard.ware.cali.bration. Come on Apple. Go Eizo please.
— Adding GPU speed to the connected machine and a solid GPU inside :-D.
— bigger
— integrated LAN 10Gig (as with iMac24)
— make the better hinge standard

When we go crazy, let's go crazy:
— Qi1-charging pad in the stand.
— NVME slot(s) in the display corpus, ideally with RAID

So much you could improve on here and turn the screen to a work station.
