I'm sorry but this guy sucks. His single "don't tap the glass" is probably the worst piece of "music" I've heard in my life.

Or maybe I'm getting old. Whatever.
I didn’t care for his new album, but some of his previous work have incredible production. He writes, produces, and curates all of his work. Which the same can’t be said about most modern performers. If you are actually willing to give a chance, play IGOR from the beginning.

No, I won’t - just as I won’t Charlie XCX or similar crap.

Saying "I need an artist of the year for my tastes" is embarrassing for you. Sorry art isn't constantly catered towards you.

Perhaps you're mistaking what you think I need with "who?" When someone is recognized for an award that should span a significant breadth of the music listening audience, and is maybe known by less than 10% as you can see here, some reflection on whether there were better options for the award should be considered.

I don't listen to Taylor Swift or Bad Bunny either, I probably wouldn't be able to attribute a song to either one, but at least if either were the award winner, I and many others wouldn't be going "who?".

Artists sampling loops is nothing new. It's been around for 40 years dude! Some of the greatest and most influential albums are made with almost no instruments but just sampled loops. Never heard of the Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique?
Lol - greatest and most influential? Try the Beatles Sgt Peppers. Honestly, the Beastie Boys got lucky with a couple of songs hitting at just the right time with the right vibe. They could just as easily have disappeared into the cellars of NYC's music scene. But that's true of many bands that broke out. Luck and timing are what break you out into the public. Rolling this back into Tyler - where's his breakout? Maybe this award? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

You gotta listen at least once - and by once, I mean enough to know that you hate it ;) I usually give new songs at least 30s, plus a jump or two deeper into the song before determining if it sucks so bad it deserves immediate ejection. Some don't get the full 30s, but will at least get the 2 jumps. If those samples are all the same loop with monotonous vocals - out it goes.

I see you never listened to that album. It's ok, the public thought it was meh, but behind the scenes it influenced generations of producers and songwriters. It singlehandedly change how samples were used, not just as garnish but as the main ingredients. Multi layered sampling became art in its own right. This album also changed the legal rights of sampling overnight. Without this album there would be no Prodigy, Daft Punk, Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers, De La Soul, Beck, no electronic music, no House, Dancehall, Big Beat, Breakbeats, not the Hip Hop we know today.

Not my style really - but the Beastie Boys still had more musical talent than most of today's autotune loop junkies. And I'm not a fan. As for how influential? I can't speak directly to it as at least half of those are on my occasional play list, so not a focus of my musical interests to a level I can debate with you on it.
