Think it's gonna be about half an hour til the flight leaves to my local UPS distro, this should have my phone and my watch since my watch is coming to Louisville as well!! Ontario, Cali distro FTW!!

I do this every year. A lot of things still sync over if you use iCloud so it’s not too bad.

I always used to set mine up as new. I started using backups for a few years but I think I'll probably set the 16PM up as new. I want the AI to be seated comfortably in its new home.

The downside of living so close to Louisville is that UPS 636 doesn't leave until 4:30 in the morning and even if it comes by truck, that's only 4 hours max. I doubt I see anymore movement before bed. Which on the bedtime note, I don't think I am sleeping tonight without Ambien. I am too excited like a kid before Christmas.

I caught the UPS flight from SDF to CVG a few years ago, I figured that'd be a truck instead of a plane. That plane was small and departed at 4am or so, and was sitting in CC the next morning like it'd been there all week. No muss no fuss, they got it down pretty good at UPS.

I do not know what the plan is for tomorrow. I do not see any SDF to CVG flights on Flighradar24 or FlightAware at this time.

I did get a Launch Day phone some years ago where less than 12 hours before the phone was sitting on my desk it was on a 747 over Cincinnati. I heard it fly over my house on its descent into Louisville as i watched it on FlightAware. That was pretty cool!

Maybe not cutting it that close, though I admit I find it worrying, too.

It's about a 2 1/2 hour flight SDF -> BOS. After that, I guess it depends where your destination UPS facility is relative to Logan.

My destination hub is Lynnfield, Mass, which is about a half hour north of Logan. Typically the delivery vehicles leave Lynnfield around 9 AM or so. So my phone should get to Lynnfield with plenty of time to spare.

Operative word - "should"!

I'm curious for metro-Detroit people how our phones will get here. I don't see a scheduled flight SDF-DTW today or tomorrow. I know if often comes up by truck for regular shipments, but I thought UPS always flies them here for iPhone launches..

Ups flight scheduled from sdf to Detroit in about an hour…Michigan bound phones maybe…there’s also an ups flight from sdf to Lansing in about the same time. But for the life of me I don’t ever remember my phone going anywhere but straight to my local hub (flint) from sdf

To all my fellow Arizona peeps....pretty sure we'll be on one of these two flights out of SDF today. Watch for a departure scan in the next hour or so, which will mean we're on UPS5852. Otherwise, we'll hope for a scan by around 2:30pm if we're on UPS2876.

There's a third flight that arrives in Phoenix at 3:55am, but I think that would be cutting it close.

Thanks, I knew i needed to study up for Friday. I thought if I could preempt migration questions by noting my research, I'd do it. lol

I do recall last year doing a multistep process to upgrade the new phone to the beta before migrating, and finding out I didn't have to actually do that as, unlike previous years, it could be part of the migration. I imagine that's the same this year... .

Regarding your iPhone's mp3 files, I think they get moved over via an iCloud backup, but I don't know. Maybe the phone to phone transfer would work better, again, I don't know.

I'm the Apple expert (lol) to many of my friends, but I have very specific use case for my many devices including using iTunes Match and Apple Music, and friends who use local music files on the Macintosh computers. Most of my work files are in iCloud Drive. It's been a decade since I used my computer or phone like that and have no idea how some of those details work when not totally enmeshed in the Apple Ecosystem. I get a new Mac or iPhone and I have all my music and work files available to download immediately. Slight tangent warning, lol.

There are several more flights overnight to MIA and FLL. So even if your flight arrives around 6 AM it sill has plenty of time to make your scheduled delivery window.

Hmm, Apple Intelligence is not in iOS 18 GA. It will arrive next month with iOS 18.1.
