I'm curious about the "smaller and improved" speaker. Generally, in audio the size of the speaker is a big part of the sound quality (since it has to push air). I want to hear for myself how their reduction in size will amount to an increase in audio quality.

Seems very un-Apple to roll out a feature that will be so difficult for most carriers to implement. Too bad because voice on wideband is so much nicer.

So if wideband audio feature is not supported by the "Big 3", do think eventually this feature is supported by the carriers? I mean yeah it's not a big deal that US carriers are not gonna support it but eventually this technology will be use right? Hmm..

more like european carriers are way behind since they don't have LTE yet

You are very misinformed.

European "operators" are actually much in the lead. We still have unlimited data with LTE. A few European countries don't have LTE just yet (although the UK is now rolling it out due to a regulatory hurdle). Countries like Germany, Austria etc have full fledged LTE networks.

I'm thinking Apple will expand it's implementation to cover voice over LTE which is the future anyway. But I'm surprised they didn't just wait for that anyway.

Just another reason to switch to a low cost pre-paid cell carrier like Straight Talk. Why pay more for same service?

??? I though voice was still 3G?

It is. What the article is saying is that AT&T & Verizon will no longer work to implement new tech on their old systems. Their focus is LTE.

Not sure how that makes sense since they won't support it either.

Didn't Philler said "Deutsch Telecom" and "Orange" will support that feature on launch day? Why those small tiny countries but not the united states?

You're kidding, right? Either that or you have your face so deep inside Uranus that you can't see clearly.

Perhaps because those "small tiny" countries in wich are both are active, have about 497.000.000 residents? Together they have telecom companies in almost every country of the european union.

not to mention them telecom companies own T-Mobile and 45% of Verizon, and one has more customers then the entire population of the US.

USA is very spread out except in big cities.
In cities like New York, the networks can barely handle regular calls. Too many people, too few cell towers, too many obstacles (steel and concrete buildings).
In rural areas, there's lots of space between houses. Not enough people to justify more and newer cell towers.

In places like Germany (Deutsche Telekom) and France (Orange), there's not that kind of mega cities and there's more dense population in rural areas. So it's much cheaper to reach most of the population with relatively few cell phone towers. And the fewer towers you have, the easier it is to upgrade them all with the newest technology.

We won't be able to experience this "HD Audio." However, those of us with AT&T get the privilege of paying more for shared data in order to use Facetime. Carriers suck. Carriers suck. Carriers suck.

I'll be paying less for shared data :D $110 instead of $140 for my family plan. We don't use more than 4GB (or even close to that). Wifi is everywhere.
