Isn't there small pieces of google in about 5 or 6 other browsers any ways?
Besides chrome extensions.
?
Facebook and a few others tied in the search anyways passing information around.
Not a programmer sorry.
Google has the most aggressive data information.

So who ever gets this browser gets the gold for the 21st century.
Do they sell the data back to google?
Shell games.

The only things even close to a monopoly that Google has is the search engine itself. But, unlike phone service prior to AT&T breakup, it's extremely easy to switch to another search engine. The only reason Google keeps its share is that the majority haven't found a better alternative. If there is a better alternative we'd be reading all about it and within seconds change our browsers to use the new engine.
As of October 2024 Chrome had 79.4% market share on desktop and 68% on mobile, according to Wikipedia via Chat-GPT. And that doesn’t include Chromium-based browsers.

In the USA we had Telecoms broken up and all they did was regroup re-name and go again.
Is this what might just happen to the browser?
Actually, the break up of AT&T is the key event that led to low cost, fast internet. Multiple companies jumped in and each tried to build the bigger, faster network. Remember buying services where you first dialed an 800 number to access their network? The built up so much capacity that it led to ample bandwidth for the start of the public internet. So that breakup helped.

But a key difference is that a large number of those users actively went away from their default browser (typically on a Windows PC) and they could very easily go back to that or another browser without missing a beat. But it has been harder to move to another search engine due less competitive alternatives. But it is interesting and news to me that Chrome as that high a market. I did use if for a number of years. I like some of its features but it too often became a CPU hog.

Stupidest decision ever.. MS never had to sell IE and they were much worse imo.. actually still are.. cant get away from Edge to this day, they shove it down your throat every time windows upgrades. The hypocrisy runs while.
I know what you mean. I just set up a really nice Mini PC; it came pre-loaded with Windows 11 Pro. The way it was trying to shove Edge and Office 365 down my throat was not appreciated.

It's such a shock to see this administration do anything whatsoever for corporate accountability that I have to assume it's simply an oversight and that Trump is so busy golfing that he forgot this was going on. That or Google didn't kiss his butt loudly enough.

Not like Apple that acts like a truly anticompetitive market dominator of its ecosystem. I prefer making Apple allow us to have the same privileges as EU Apple users.
how many people are using alternate app stores on Android ?
i think it is tinny proportion, what's the point.

And once upon a time, the big stink was Windows Explorer versus Netscape. Then, Mozilla came along, then Firefox came out of Mozilla. I remember the day Google came out: September 4, 1998. I loaded it and tried it, and I like it and have used it every since. Only alternating it with Firefox. I have used most of the others but Google/Chrome just worked better. One thing I do not like about Google/Chrome today is the tricks being played with the algorithms to gaslight certain topics. It isn't usually a problem with me because I know exactly what I am looking for. But when you have to drill down through several pages to get good answer that sucks.
this has nothing to do with Chrome browser,

I do think it's good to require alternative app stores for Android and iPhone. I wouldn't likely use it as my phone is the most key link in my chain of security but the option is good.

Google didn't force any one to use Chrome browser.
Monopoly comes into picture when they use their market share to prevent others from competing.
Google doesn't even force anyone to use Google search either.
on Apple products people have option to change search engine, most people don't because they like google search,
I use Safari on MacOS, Firefox on linux, use DuckDuckGo for search.

ISPs in US have the best monopoly.
you would lucky if a person living in US have more that 2 options for internet service, igniring that crappy 5G Modems that Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile uses to provide internet.
there are alternatives to Google Search, Chrome Browser.

Agree. I think that is slowly starting to change. I was referring to the network and companies that serves as the backbone of the internet and phone system.

Nooo, you don't say?
I suppose it's better late than never. But I think it's really too late now. All the harm has been done. Now we just have to see if the new technologies that can leapfrog them will be squashed by Google. That should be the regulator's new assignment, to make sure Google doesn't abuse their monopoly to squash competition going froward.

This is a good start. Netxt, force Amazon to divest itself of AWS. Its the engine that allows Amazon to make enormous profits and abuse its 3rd party sellers on Amazon.com.
