i waited 8 hours for this :( :( :(

Sold Out

No phone for me :(

Called up a local apple store by me and they have some left. But the line is HUGE! So i decided im going to just have to reserve one for the days to come. Hopefully no more then a week

My Impression is I really like Apple, but they really farked this up bad!!!

The SoHo Apple Store in NYC was super smooth (surprisingly) and I finished all activations (MobileMe+iPhone 3G) in-store with ease, without any sign of being hurried by Apple staff.

I was 40th in line at SoHo; got there at about 5:30AM (inside the store by 8:17AM) and out by 9:00AM after everything had been purchased, activated, and set-up.

In all, I definitely enjoyed this experience as compared to last year's hoopla mainly because a more personal outfitting.

PS - While I was outside waiting in-line, I won an invisibleSHIELD! :)

Guys, have some patience. This happened last year, why would you expect anything different? It may be a while before you can activate your phone. So what? Wait a few hours, maybe it'll work then.

I was in line @ Richmond, VA... the AT&T store didn't have too many people waiting in line. I was only about 15 people behind in line, and they ran out before I even got close. I was a little mad, but I'm glad the store was with in walking distance. I feel sorry for people who drove a long way/got up early to get one at a store that had extremely limited quantities.

Problems synching with iTunes

My activation experience has been very rough. The "unbricking" step where they plug the phone into iTunes in the store ran for more than 20 minutes!!
The top message bar saying "Accessing iTunes Store" the whole time. Finally I got a text message and they told me I was done.

I get home and try to synch with my iTunes and first three attempts kicked me out with an error message. The fourth attempt has not kicked me out (yet) but is running on and on with the "Accessing iTunes Store" message.

Aggh!

I struck out at my local AT&T store this morning. Only 40-50 people in line by 7:30am, and not many more by 9:30. I tried to pin them down on HOW MANY phones they had - specifically the 16GB black ones, and they just said "we should have plenty". By 930, they came out and said "we are almost out of 16GB Black phones". I gave up and will take the hour drive to one of the Apple stores after work tonight.

The line was moving VERY slowly. They said they had FOUR people doing activations, and at an estimated 15 minutes MINIMUM per phone, I figured they could do a max of 16 phones per hour.

And they ran out of 16GB phones after only selling 16-24 phones???

Ridiculous compared to the 5 minute in and out at the Apple Store last year...

Hope they get the activation issues worked out by tonight!

easy pay systems was/is down?

in an apple store right now (Leawood KS), apple store employee said the easy pay servers they use to process orders was down....was down about 30min or so it sounds like. Looks like they are starting to process orders again (9:40a CDT in US)

impossible to get it activated here in the UK too - just sits on "Accessing iTunes Store" Would have thought they would have sorted this sort of problem ready for this kind of launch.

Totally Stalled at iPhone Launch in Huntsville

After waiting since 5:40 AM (at about 40th in line). It's 9:41 AM and I'm still sitting outside the store. Apparently the iTunes servers are having problems talking to the AT&T servers. LOTS of folks have had to depart for work. I'm doing my best to work from the floor of the mall.

This is an absolute embarrassment to both Apple and AT&T. They should have been able able to load thest their idiotic "keep it locked" solution that requires a contract be signed in the store. Paranoia will destroy you.

Apple: Find a loop-hole in your AT&T contract, ditch these clowns, become an MVNO and offer Apple-quality service with your phone. This sucks.

Same Deal Here

Went to a local Apple Store and picked up the 16GB black model....was there at 5:30 AM and was about 45th in line. Doors opened at 8 am and got the iPhone in hand at about 9:30 am---porting my number from Verizon went fine and thought all was well, until it came time to activate the phone. Spent 30 minutes plugged into iTunes with no activation. Decided to give up and went home with the knowledge that I could complete the activation process at home. Plugged in several times with the iTunes error message. Plugged in for 4th time and got the "Accessing iTunes Store..." progress bar. Waiting for 15 minutes now for activation.

Still waiting....will likely be a long wait. Sounds like I am not alone.

Niagara Falls

Went to the AT&T store in Niagara Falls... about 20-30 people in front of me... sold out completely 2 customers ahead of me. The last guy got a 16gb white one.

This AT&T kind of crapped out... their system went down 2 or 3 times before I even got in the store. I didn't get out of there until 10:00 or so, and even then I had no iPhone. Did do their direct fulfillment or whatever, so I guess I will have a 16gb black by this time next week... hopefully sooner... :(

Annapolis

line has not moved in an hour. They are saying different stories "network was down but just came up" or "we are spending 30 minutes with each customer" just now they are saying they are going to let people leave and activate at home...

how do we know if our local at&t store or apple store is sold out?

http://www.apple.com/retail/iphone/availability.html
that isn't saying much anymore, and it's only updated nightly
anyone know of a better solution?
(and better than driving to each one and asking)

you may have heard of another device that was invented in recent years.... the phone.

It may not do all the cool things an iPhone does, but it does make a call, and judging by the number of people crying about not being able to finish setup, it does MORE than the iphone does right now :D

AT&T let me get all the way up to a clerk before telling me they are not even selling the iPhone to people who have to pay the full price...

I am so mad right now I can barely see straight, I was blatantly lied to when on the phone to an AT&T rep monday, who said all I had to do was sign a new 2 year contract (extension) to get the new iPhone...

looks like I will be borrowing one of my friend's to upgrade to the plan, then right to the 3g the next day (or when/if I can find a store with one).

:( I hate cell phone companies.

Guys, have some patience. This happened last year, why would you expect anything different? It may be a while before you can activate your phone. So what? Wait a few hours, maybe it'll work then.

THIS did not happen last year. ATT sucks. I waited 5 hours, bought my WHITE iphone, then waited 1.5 hours for the "activation" and then was told...take it home and try it.

Not acceptable at all.

I got up at 5 and was 17th in line at the apple store Houston galleria. When I get in there they have an IRU error with my account and call AT&T to resolve it. No dice, the AT&T rep said to go to an AT&T store to have it fixed, that's all they could do. My account was a business account YEARS ago but hasn't been for a long time. I even called AT&T yesterday to verify and was told that I was good to go. Now I am in line @ AT&T and almost definitely won't get an iPhone today. I HATE AT&T. HATE them. HATE.

Well, I got past the iTunes Store error...

...but I've been stuck at the 'Accessing iTunes Store' banner for about 15 minutes now. I don't know whether to wait longer or just start over again. Either way, I still can't use my iPhone after installing the 2.0 firmware. This blows...

am in line at the cherry creek mall location. Maybe 30 people have gone in and we don't see many coming out.

There are at least 200-300 in line. This could take all day.

Apple should have known better!

Apple should have seen this coming and not played things so tight. The 2.0 upgrade should have been made available to previous iPhone/iPodTouch owners at the end of last week or the beginning of this week to get ahead of some of the iTunes bottlenecking problems that we knew would be a problem.

Seriously, what were they thinking!

I'm getting the same error code. I wanted to add the 30 on to my family plan to replace the 20 plan. Noone in the store could figure that out and they were only letting 8 in at a time. Spent over an hour working with the first 8 and none of us got activated in store. They received an e-mail after trying to activate for 40 minutes that said send customer home to activate.

I understand they are activating a lot of phones but it sucks they disconnect your current phone before the new one is activated. So now I don't have a phone at all until I see my wife. And she has no idea that I don't have a phone LOL.

I was 1st in line until about 2:30 am and one of my friends whined to go home and they rode with me and noone else was in line. I got back at 4:30 am and was still number 3. They gave people free water after the temps hit 90+ after about 6 am.

I got in line at my local AT&T store... They only got 30 iPhones in for today. I missed it by 8 people. :(
