So we are at 6 page, 150+ comments so far, again not a single mention of pulling out of US market.

At yet when other country or nation do the same. Apple and its supporter on Macrumors threatens to leave the market. Interesting.

This also goes with the PR person leaving. I smell something fishy going on.

Apple could create a special watermark in official app store software and if that is not present could be logged and used as a basis for denial in the event that someones phone is affected by what they downloaded.

But the phone ships with App Store software, so it would always be present unless people purged every app from their phone.

It would cover those cases where an app has been downloaded from a third party App Store and that software would not have the official watermark.

Wanna place bets on whether this actually gets approved? I'm saying no.
Somehow, I don't have this "fan, bet and lottery" gene in me.

Anyway, I don't know if this will be approved or not, but alone the uproar Apples latest shady business practices is causing, this all won't end just in favor of Apple.

The whole world will keep an eye on Apple from now on.
Soon they will need to employ more lawyers than developers. ?

Gonna sideload more malware, this time on my new Windows machine!

IF everyone here complaining and cant be responsible about what is being installed or downloaded shouldn't own a mobile phone. Its not that hard to know if something looks suspicious or not. Guess the people that are complaining are the same people who download their UPS receipst that has been attached to their email and zipped up.

I think you're just describing developer certificates. This is basically what MacOS already looks for when deciding whether an app is from a trusted source or not. Tying that to the warranty system seems needlessly petty.

Well there's obviously something else going on here, because macOS has an App Store too. So if Apple "just wants to keep control" then they could very easily disable side-loading on macOS too, yet they don't.
Yet! They want to, make no mistake about it.

Well they have budget for it. :apple:

I purchased my iPad hoping to get apps I want that are not compatible with my Android tablets and the Play Store.
I LOVE the Opera browser for Android and HATE the iPad version.
My very first, then second tablet, are 10 inch Amazon tablets (2017 & 2019).
My 2019 Samsung Galaxy Tab A is the best of all.
They all have trouble with some apps not being compatible from the Google Play Store. Yes, installing the Play Store on an Amazon tablet is easy-peasy.
(I’m not that tech savvy, but can read and follow instructions).
I WILL return to Android because the iPad is not good enough to be my daily driver. An Android tablet is a near computer replacement (for me).
A Chrome 2 in 1 would serve me better than an iPad.
I can’t put music on my iPad without iTunes.
Had to use iCloud for Windows to add photos to iPad.
Security? No! Everything is locked down Apple style.
Like my old PC. Removing the sticker to open the case would void the warranty.
Would not want to install other apps if the ones from The Store worked well.
The Amazon Store doesn’t have the apps I want.
So technically, both Amazon and Apple are to blame!
Everyone is to blame for not making desktop style app for mobile.
I need a PC just to save my browser bookmarks!

So forcing Apple to allow side loading gets a vote but not voting rights? Appropriately insane for the U.S. Senate.
Don't worry. The GOP side of the Senate (plus DINO's Manchin and Sinema) are on a roll of not passing anything.
They won't break their blocking streak by passing this...

So because the current system isn't perfect, let's throw the baby out with the bathwater and make it worse?
Why isn’t the current system perfect?
iPhone released in 2007.
iPad 2010.
Windows 10/11 are sometimes available with an S version.
They do not include virus software, as it is not necessary.
You can only install apps from the Microsoft Store.
Virtually every device I know of can be set not to allow any 3rd party apps.

Not sure why folk are getting so wound up about this. Apple decided to install a scanner on all their customers‘ devices along with a database of encoded CSAM pictures. They decided to use their customers’ processors and battery to do something that Google and Microsoft do on their own servers at their own expense.

Apple opens up a vector for oppressive government surveillance on millions of devices … and folk are worried about sideloading?

Oookay then … ?
