Yep it's selling so well that they had to force Apple users to have the album on iTunes even if we didn't like it or want it. Really, on my Purchased Songs Apple?

Cool story bro, They give you something for free, you can delete it and yet you bitch and moan. First world problem for sure.

----------

I deleted the album the moment it showed up on my iPhone.

That said, I'm wondering how this will factor into its "sales". Will it chart on Billboard? How will Soundscan deal with this release?

Too bad for you. It's really a pretty good album.

that picture shows they are part of illuminati....yeah...that finger pose....

It is bloatware that should not be on my iOS devices. That simple really. I don't want this **** on my iOS devices. I have it on my purchased list on iTunes on my iPad. I don't want it on the list. I want it permanently removed from there (not just hidden).

Seriously Apple this is disgusting.

Anyone know how to remove tracks from my iOS iTunes purchased songs list?
I don't care if I can't download them again, I don't even want to download the U2 stuff the first time.

It's not bloatware unless you actually download it. Get your facts straight before having a hissy fit over nothing.

People need to calm down it wasn't downloaded to anyones phones or what not. It was only showing up it the person had in the settings show all music. Then it was showing not only what was on the phone but also what was in their iCloud.
Actually, it did download to some people's devices.

And featuring in the most read on BBC News right now is...

I don't understand what's such a big deal. It's just a couple of free songs that you don't even have to listen to and that you can hide from your library.

The BIG DEAL is it's product that is being forced upon the customer. Come on man. Honestly. I don't care for U2 but this morning I look on my Purchased Songs only to find U2's album ready for download. I never purchased it, I never even seen the album cover as of yet and when U2 came on stage I closed the browser. I was done with the keynote.

That's definitely your choice but as a consumer who has spent a great deal of money with Apple I don't at all appreciate them throwing U2 in my purchased category on iTunes, because I DID NOT PURCHASE IT.

Then delete it and stop complaining they gave you a freebie.

After all these years of being somewhat an Apple apologist I NOW understand why people get angry at Macrumors members for defending Apple. You tell ME to stop complaining because Apple gave me something I never asked for. That's rich.

LMAO, once again, I can see why people get annoyed at people who show themselves as the ultimate Apple apologists.

thanks for deleting my comment nazirumours mod. at least give a reason.

This was a genius deal for U2. Any iTunes user upset about it is a cry baby. Listen to it, don't listen to it. It's a great album. I hope it gets played ever five minutes on your favourite radio station just to annoy you even more.

Maybe next time they could ask us if we actually want that s*** in our music collection before just forcing it upon us. I don't care if it's free, I still don't want it... it kind of like being a kid at Christmas and waking up to find your parents have got you a potato for Christmas.

You've a problem with potatoes now?

There were several cringe inducing moments during the keynote. This was just one of them...

I have to admit it was more than a little bizarre seeing Cook interacting with Bono in a starstruck way that can probably compare to how a teenage girl winning a dinner date with Justin Bieber would act.

It is great to be a huge fan of a band your own age, but probably not a great idea forcing that band on all your customers being from 15 to 70 years old.

I am so glad Apple gave away and album by U2 and not by Dr Dre!
Well with all the whining, this makes us all Apple users look like a bunch of ungrateful bastards, doesn't it?

Gotta hand it to U2 though - Bono & co are quite savvy businessmen.

Not only getting their album force-fed to an enormous amount of people, but they manage to get a great pay day from it as well. This deal alone will probably earn them more than a huge hit album back in the days of physical media when artists actually made good money from popular releases.

And all this in a time when even established artists don't make much money from the music itself. Impressive indeed, and one has to wonder how many big artists would let Apple do something like this more or less for free just for the potentially outreach to new listeners. I think quite a few - especially those embarking on tours this or next year.

You must have been pissed when Apple launched iBooks and they gave everybody a copy of Winnie-the-Pooh and the Beatles Yellow Submarine. I can't even imagine how you felt when they made iPhoto, iMovie, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote free for all iOS 7 users.

Almost all online services I've been using give away free stuff from time to time, not just Apple. This overreaction is really out of place.

Maybe you should switch to Android then?
Unlike this couple of songs that you can easily delete locally, there's a lot of apps that you can't delete on your iPhone such as Apple Maps, Weather, Clock, Calculator, Passbook, Notes, FaceTime, Reminder, Calendar, Mail, Game Center and I'm probably forgetting a couple of others. They take way more space than a few U2 songs and there's no workaround to take them off your phone.

So is your post. But thanks, not really.

Does Apple know what their in for ? or maybe "if u be my friend, we'll give Apple uses a free deal on at every event."

Actually, that would be good too..

It doesn't show under purchased on my computer...

Its not under the 'Purchased' section, its on the home page... like buying anything on ITS. The only difference is , Its Free.
