My Rating is 4.71. I have rated all drivers 5/5 even they were undeserving. Now I will be more critical. Cigarette smell in car?... You betcha arse gonna be voted down.

While that driver probably rates you five stars... no wonder your rating is <5.

Stop tipping. I just checked and have a straight 5.0 even though I never tip Uber drivers. :p
Yeah but you have to live with yourself.

One of the big selling points of Uber for me was you didn't have to tip. But if you don't tip the drivers they definitely rate you down. Lame

Not true, I've never tipped Uber and have used it hundreds of times around the country and have a near 5.0 rating. As someone who has worked in a tips based industry, tipping should be reserved IMHO for those where it is built in to the wage structure, e.g., wait staff, hotel maids, bell hops, etc. In those cases, I tip generously for good service. Or for someone who went above and beyond. Other than taking care of someone for a very short ride, tipping most taxi drivers never made sense to me. Why would you pay a Taxi driver $70 for a ride and then feel pressure to tip them?

I have zero stars. I haven't used Uber much and I can't remember if I've tipped or not; but I remember one or two drivers telling me that a tip wasn't necessary so I likely didn't tip them. I guess that's earned me a big fat zero. Lovely.

I have this friend who in every possible way is super delightful.
She found out her passenger rating was 4.95 and freaked out.
So that's something like 19 drivers gave her 5 and 1 gave her 4.

Yeah don't be a jerk in an Uber (or anywhere else if you can help it), but if both driver and passenger put on this weird "Please give me 5 stars" persona it all gets a little creepy.

Ratings both ways really does matter. If a driver or passenger gets a low rating, Uber will never match the two for a ride going forward.

I've been driving for a week now and finally got a 4 star rating after twenty 5 star ratings. It happens, but financially it's important for me to do the best job I can. Drivers are required to rate riders, but passengers are not required to. Drivers should always give 5 star passenger ratings unless something very bad happens. If a rider see's his/her rating drop they can always rate the driver much later after the ride with low stars in retaliation.

People, the millennial generation are growing up with different ideas and norms in life. They don't want to own a car or even have a drivers license. They expect an on-demand economy. How many "box" delivery services are there now?

I've lived in the Pittsburgh, PA suburbs my whole life (except for college), and the public transportation to/from and within the city is pretty mediocre. Finding a cab when you were downtown is/was next to impossible. Uber is a great alternative, and all of the drivers are very polite and have nice cars. I know everyone has their own views on this based on where they live, so this is just my perspective.

Sorry should have mentioned that I am from Germany. :)

No need to apologize! Just like any other form of transportation, the quality will vary based on location. For example, I'd never take a train out of Pittsburgh again. They are extremely slow, stop all the time and are quite old. However the train system in the areas I've been to in Europe are fantastic and make me jealous!
