Let me guess...you're the kind of person who also waits to buy car insurance until after he gets into an accident, and health insurance until after he's diagnosed with cancer? Much cheaper that way, that's for sure.

While it is a scumbag move to try and get insurance after the damage has occurred, it seems like you might be better off just taking the phone in to pay for a screen replacement.

No need for AppleCare, take it in and ask for a screen replacement for $129 and since they likely don't have the screens to replace it yet they'll give you a whitebox device.

This is stili the correct answer before defrauding Apple.

If Apple replaces your phone before AppleCare+, they will not let you buy AppleCare for the replacement.

Once you are out of the club, you can't get back in.

I suggest getting your phone replaced. Sell it, then buy another one and put AppleCare+ on it.

I don't know what the economics of that procedure looks like, but it might be cheaper than replacing your phone under the normal rules.

depends what is damaged surely.... replacement screen glass is just the glass...if other parts are damaged then the answer is different

Title says it all. Can I buy AppleCare and get a free replacement? Also I think the phone is weaker, there is no way the phone should shatter from a 4 foot drop

I would look into going to AA meetings. You are a sloppy drunk and a fraudster.

Applecare or not, they won't replace accidental damaged phones. They will examine it and can tell.

----------

AppleCare+ and replacement: 179
Warranty screen repair: 129

Depends where in the world they are.

Let this be a lesson for you: Look after your stuff, and learn to take responsibility when you break it.

Do you crash your car and expect your manufacturer to give you a brand new car?

Am I a bad person for hoping the OP's phone doesn't pass the online diagnostic and has to go to an Apple store for checking, where they will obviously decline AppleCare+?

Am I even worse for hoping that he/she needs a whole replacement unit, instead of just a $129 screen replacement?

Just me?

Well, not as bad as you.. But I do wonder if he passed the diagnostic test.

The thing is, I've seen several threads pop up since the i6 was released, all with tales of woe about how they dropped their phone and didn't take out Applecare+ & guess what? I have no sympathy whatsoever.

I buy Applecare +.

It may seem "unnecessary" at the time and I'll bet every single person that posted their "Dropped but no AC+" threads thought the same.

I'm a little 'risk averse'. I don't mind a little risk, but I use my phone for business as well as pleasure, so I want/need the certainty that if I do drop it, I have quick and easy access to a replacement and nothing else comes close to providing that in the way that AppleCare+ does.

I have an Amex card that I use for pretty much everything and that covers damage/breakage for 90 days following a purcase, but I actually don't know the process involved (I will ring them & find out this morning).

But if it involves me sending my phone for a 'free' repair to one of their approved repairers, it's not good to me as I need the phone back working ASAP.

If it involves me buying a new one or getting mine repaired/replaced under the OoW scheme at Apple and claiming the money back, then that's ok too.

But the important thing here is it's only 90 days and if I damage it on day 91 I don't want the aggro/stress/financial impact of getting my phone replaced, so I buy AppleCare+, so I have that peace of mind that I am a day away (max) from a repaired/replaced phone.

With applecare+ they will replace for accidental damaged phones (but you need to buy it before the accident).

I bet if the OP went into an apple store, told his story (maybe with a slight quiver in his voice) they would have pity on him.

I meant without any Apple Care/+. I remember taking my iPad Mini because it had a vertical crack. They replaced it because they said it was nothing to do with accidental damage.

My iPhone 6 Plus is "spick and span". If I buy Apple Care+ today and if my phone gets damaged in a couple of days time. Am I covered?

Not trying to encourage fraud here, but if it's within the 60 day grace period you could call and add AppleCare+, then get a replacement for $80.

You are totally encouraging fraud since you don't seem to be sure about it, lol!

Yes, AFAIK there is no "waiting" period.

Why are you even looking into AC+ for this? A single screen replacement is $109. Getting it replaced now by buying AC will cost you $178. ($99 for AC and the $79 deductible). Just bring it in, pay the $109 and get a new screen.

Oh, and shattered screens have a lot of randomness to them due to how they land, etc. I had dropped a few phones from 5 or 6 feet with no issues, but shattered my 5S from a 3 foot drop because it landed perfectly flat.

Was just the screen damaged? What about the rest of the phone?
