Yeah I'm not a fan of Dixons but I'll make an exception at this price. :)

Although I'll still not believe it until the screen arrives on my doorstep!

Right then... I'm coming up to Birmingham to look for big Apple boxes on doorsteps :D

I am not a big fan of Dixons either, but actually they do occasionally have very good clearance deals. A couple of months ago I received a PM from someone here telling me that they'd seen one of the central London stores selling last year's PowerBook for just under £800 - not a bad price! Was too late though as I'd just gone and bought a new PB that weekend anyway, plus I wanted the latest model.

Woohoo! Go Dell.

Okay so I called Dixons and they confirmed that stock had been allocated for my order of the Apple display.

So, I called Dell to cancel my 24 inch monitor and all seemed fine. THEN I receive an email from Dell to say it was shipped and being delivered tomorrow.

So I emailed Dell last night to complain and this morning received a reply that says (bad English is theirs not mine!):

As per your request we can surely cancell the order, But as every order is uniquely built for our customer's.

If you are willing to accept the order we can re-fund : 120 pounds as goodwill gesture, Please mail me back to confirm what need's to be from our end.

What a bl**dy joke! I've replied to point out that they have not custom built a monitor for me and that their terms and conditions say I get a full refund if I'm not happy!

As do the Distance Selling Regulations where something is cancelled/returned within 7 days and unopened. Suggest that you refuse delivery.

Yeah that's what I've told them. I'm refusing delivery and they can refund in full! @rseholes.

thats a trick dell plays, to get around such rules they make out that everything is custom built and different laws apply to weather it's custom built or not, thus why when someone buys a dell and it gets spyware infested thier is not a damn thing you they can do about it but format till the cows come home.

Nice trick it is too. I'd like to hear how they custom built my monitor. Maybe it says "Steve" rather than Dell on the front now?

I'm hoping I can't be held to this as their terms and conditions state:

Consumer Rights
If you are a Consumer you may cancel your purchase at any time within 7 working days of receipt without cause and receive a refund of the Price paid. To do this you must inform Dell in writing and return the products immediately, in the same condition you received them and at your own cost and risk. Any statutory Consumer rights are unaffected by this Agreement. This does not apply to any business customer or user.

If I don't even accept the goods, what can they do?

dam - i really wish i had got that deal. i have a 19" tft but it's just not wide. if it were a wide screen i would be like so much more happy. oh well. looks like i ill just have to spend a lot on an Apple 20"... maybe a new screen coming out in Paris.... :D

It's a custom BOX because they've stuck your name and address on it
;)

I am sure you are well within your rights to refuse delivery or send the goods back unopened for a full refund.

Well the good news for me is that i *might* be getting one of the Dixons deals too. I still had that site open in Firefox (doesn't seem to behave v well in safari) yesterday evening and happened to refresh the page and it said it was in stock again! They must have said it was temporarily out of stock because of a sudden demand by MR members! Anyway i ordered one but the first email took hours to arrive and i have literally only just received the second email that says they are starting to process my order. Website says out of stock again so i really hope i've got one allocated...

My first email took hours too and I've just received the third one.

Last night I called the number in one of the emails (don't have it to hand) to ask if stock had been allocated to my order so you could always try that to put yourself out of your misery.

I still won't believe it totally until it arrives (with no dead pixels!) :-s

I just called the number in the email... he said the order looked fine but he wasn't able to confirm 100% that one was allocated to me yet as still too early. He said they 'should' have one for me (hopefully) and basically told me to wait for the next email or to call back later in the week if i haven't heard anything.

hmmm yes i'm worried about dead pixels too but i suppose i'll have to overlook the odd one for £150ish off - i used that £25 voucher code but then the delivery charge was almost as much as i requested the wednesday morning slot.

A buddy of mine is a techy for PC World, and he's bought a discounted 23" display.

The rumors he's hearing from Head Office is that apple are bringing out new ADC's, with build in tv tuners to support HD!!!

Wild speculation, but it could be true....this guy doesn't usually bull.

 Just out of interest, how much did he pay?

I saw a couple of discounted 23" models (refurbs/opened boxes) at Regent Street a few weeks ago for around £849 or £899 but i'm guessing those may have been returns due to dead pixels or something, and for that price i'd want a perfect one.

probably more to do with the pink tinge some of them seem to have, i'll have a look and see if i can have any guarantees of dead pixels. £850 with a 10% off card that i have would be £765 which is about how much the dell 24" screen costs.

uh oh.

so if i get my dixons deal, then what i might get is a pink tinged screen with dead pixels and crushed packaging... (ever the optomist)....

I don't disbelieve your friend but I'd just tend to disbelieve PC World in general.

When it comes to Mac stuff, they seem a bit clueless on the whole. At least, I wouldn't have said they had their fingers on the pulse anyway. :-s

the pink tinge issue only effects the 23" acd's it's stated as new so you have the same chance as anyone that your going to have dead pixels

*sniff* i missed out :( and i cant afford the £504.08 for a Dell 2005FPW.. awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww! dammit!

I doubt they'd integrate a TV Tuner, I mean, they'd have to have a different model for each territory and standard, and not much use for the myriad companies that provide their own decoder box.

I expect that it will add a HDMI or DisplayPort input however, hopefully even component input. Computer -> DVI, Cable/Satellite/Terrestrial digital receiver -> HDMI/Component.

s-video in would be a big plus, tv tuners are dead end, everyone is now useing digital boxes, i have not used my in built tv tuner in my lcd tv once now i wish i just bought a DVI panel with s video in to get a higher quality picture and be able to run a high res from my g4 cube, it's currently 1280x768

Has anyone got theirs yet?

Mine was supposed to be delivered tomorrow morning, but I've just received an email to say that there has been a delay and I should receive it within 5 working days :(

They will however refund the delivery charge (£18.99) :)

Mine arrived! :) Love it. Looks fantastic and I think the 24" Dell would have been overkill. The 20 inch seems huge.

Now if only I could find a good use for an iSight... it would look great sat on top of the screen. :)

Hehe when it comes to everything they are pretty clueless... they hardly carry anything in stock in store so what's the point in buying from them. Their 'REPAIR' services aint Maintenance things are a joke... I sent a HP notebook of my sisters in to see just what they do... they just virus check & run adaware ... duh!

Oh and I have heard many a time they recommend to customers not to bother with mac's and / or decent brands and to try their latest Packard Hell or Advent ... yuk! NEC Rebranded rubbish.

They don't give you any drivers / cd's apart from on a partition on the hdd so when the hdd dies and you replace it you have to shell out £35 for the cd's to be sent.....

absolute joke.

Congrats Nomad - and you'll enjoy looking even more each time you remember what a bargain it was.

Yes that does make it sweeter.

Even so, I'm still getting a thrill every time I look at it.

Sad?? Me?? ;-)
