Hi

Does anyone have any idea if UK catch up apps will be coming to the new Apple TV?

I can't seem to find anything.

Thanks

Go grab TV Player - probably the closest we're going to get to an app showing all the terrestrial channels until iPlayer makes it's debut at some point.

Cheers. Already got that, shame it doesn't have catch up for BBC and 4.

Very much so. It's probably the only reason why the interest for Apple TV over here hasn't taken off.

Hopefully when iPlayer comes out, the rest of them will follow suit.

Does anyone know if the iPlayer channel works on Plex?
This could be a good work around until the official app.

It does work, yes, but only for on demand stuff (at least for me anyway). Live channels just stall when you try to load them. I guess channel may require updating for compatibility?

If you have a USB C cable handy and are willing to install X Code, you can install AuntiePlayer from Github. Haven't tried this so not sure if the live channels work.

Does anyone have a VPN solution for the new box so that apps such as TV Player can work for us expats? Other than setting up a shared network on my iMac of course, as that's a bit of a fiddle, or AirPlay for that matter (not a fiddle but not as chic as a built in solution)

Have you tried a Smart DNS solution? Eg. Overplay.

Unsure about TV Player, as I'm located in UK, but Smart DNS is working brilliantly for accessing American services on the ATV4.

Hi can you explain a little more on how you have configured Overplay and the ATV4? ATV4 doesn't have a specific VPN option like the iPhone / iPad - Sorry if this seems to be a dumb question

My USB-C cable comes in tomorrow so I'll try side loading Auntie Player while I wait for the official iPlayer app.

I also just emailed Channel 4 asking them about All 4 being natively available on the Apple TV and mentioned BBC is planning an app. Maybe if more of us contact them they'll get cracking on it. Channel 4 has great content but not the greatest app support.

Works perfect with GetFlix SmartDNS...

..

Do the premium channels also work with it? They don't on UnoTelly.

Anyone know of a side load hack for itv or channel 4?

These are the 2 apps that really need to come to the Apple TV 4

I have itv player (now itv hub) on my Apple TV - simply create a plex server on your Mac or pc and then put the itv hub on it - I googled the plex bundle and found it, it works perfectly, even abroad with smart DNS

Or setup a proxy in the network configurations.

How's the quality of itv and all4 via AirPlay?

I tried All4 a few times on AirPlay and it was a joke. It kept dropping the connection between the ads (and there are a LOT of ads). I emailed Channel 4 and they said to use mirroring instead, but mirroring a 16:9 video via an iPad's 4:3 screen results in a window boxed 16:9 image on the TV, which is absurd. I of course also asked them when they would get off their backsides and release an Apple TV app, to which the response was silence.

C4 have just released All4 on the PS4, so it's taken them over two years to get an app on the most popular console in the UK. I'm not holding my breath for an ATV app any time this year, or even next.

It'll be interesting to see this quality issue because the app on my 6s is HD and very crisp. The Ads are low Q and look like junk.

My understanding of AirPlay is that the device doesn't stream to the ATV, it simply supplies a pointer to the content on the providers servers.

Not when mirroring though, and All4 barely works when using normal AirPlay.
