Because the us is 50 times the size meaning 50 times the towers they need to build and maintain.

I dont get why you guys over there have to pay to receive texts though :S Its not like you choose to get them all the time.

Wrong! It's because we, the American consumers, are too complacent with greedy companies and let them screw us over. Can you name another cell carrier in the world that bills you for calls you receive? Good luck finding one!

This is not new, Three have had the white iPhone listed since day 1 but will not allow you to order.

They take 2 working days to send a phone so the reason it says Weds 20th is that very reason, if you look tonight ALL the phones have a delivery date of the same day.

They pulled the specific page - I guess we'll find out soon whether it was an accident or a too-early posting.

Just checked and you can't select an iPhone at the moment, just takes you to a landing page!

I am glad, although surprised, that they are finally releasing the white iPhone. Come September (or whenever the new phone comes out), I'll know ahead of time which color I want to get. Otherwise, I would have opted for black not knowing which color I would like.

And the ratio of towers to consumers should be pretty close. So this is not a good argument unless the carriers decide to offer blanket uniform coverage to all the geographic US no matter the local population density.

It says it comes with a bumper, but Apple only gave away bumpers to Black iPhone users for a limited time and then they had to pay $29 for one...I wonder if this is an old image?

Also, "All-you-can-eat data"????? Does the UK have a more laid back style in their product listings?

Three provide free bumper cases to all iPhone customers but are not in Apple branded packaging. I believe they are sourced from the same supplier however.

i got my iPhone 4 with 3 (Three) just before christmas, they had the White models on the site then, you just couldn't order it, the 'All-you-can-eat Data' with The One Plan is exactly that, no fair usage policy, and tethering and personal hot spot are included, and yes you get a free bumper, which is an Apple Bumper, just in plain packaging.
I get 2000mins (+5000 to other 3 customers) Unlimited Texts, and Unlimited Data for £35 a month.

Mobile Networks, one thing the UK does better than America

Three is the best network by far

Hey everyone, just thought i would chime in about the iPhone 4 from the Hutchinson network '3':
- yes they provide you with a free bumper (random colour) as i received a new one with my iPhone 4 yesterday
- All you can eat data - to stop confusion with all these other wank-ass companies that state unlimited data with a hidden cap - '3' literally give you real unlimited data :)
- and best of all... free tethering... 5886 texts, 4886 minutes, 2886 '3' to '3' minutes... and the phone itself costs £69 not around £175 like other networks  everybody in the UK (specifically the Peak National District) sign up to '3' so they build a new Cell Tower there :D

EDIT: also, the US is so backwards with most stuff it's unreal, the UK are bad but our broadband and cell networks in cities freaking rules - and yes Hutchinson's '3' network - if you have signal it's 3G signal no matter what, but their coverage, while improving isn't the best... if they had the same coverage as Vodafone it would knock all competition out the market - i want a cell tower in the Peak District National Park, because i have to stand outside to get signal, but i frankly don't care because my contract is that good, i feel i'm paying £35 for a lot of cool stuff, extremely fast 3G and FREE TETHERING!!! sorry, just can't get over this, i was nearly crying with happiness when the saleswoman told me lol

So does anyone think the white iPhone 4 and/or iPhone 5 will have the CDMA iPhone 4-esque antenna with four black seams instead of three? Or will they go for GSM continuity and keep it as it is?

The golden years from the UK mobile contracts ended in 2006 when 18 month contracts became the norm.

Who says?
I bought my unlocked iPhone4 from Apple UK and run it on a Three SIM for £5 per month for 2GB data. This is a contract (but only 30 day rolling so I can change at any time). I don't make many calls so I pay-for-any I do make, same with texts. Call using Skype (1ppm) when I can. So not only is this the cheapest way of running an iPone, I can instantly change to iPhone5 if I want to (whenever it comes out; une, September or 2012).

So I'd have agree, the UK cell-phone/mobile market is one of the few things we do that is better value than US. Thats not to say, most UK people are still on traditional 12/18/24 month locked-in contracts with the big 3 or 4 mobile companies...
