Trump is trying to force companies like Nintendo to build factories in USA. If Nintendo doesn't build factories in USA, that is "taking a stand"
No one is going to build factories in the US. It takes billions of dollars to build them and years to complete. And with Trump on and off with everything he is doing, no action is the smart action.

I thought something like this would happen. I'll go further. In light of all the tariff issues, I suspect that the UK Government will back down on this one as part of a negotiated set of "deals" regarding tax and other matters to come up with a trade deal. Hopefully, it will just "go away".

My ADP, which was turned on prior to Apple preventing new activations, remains on and hopefully it will stay that way.

They don't need to. All they need to do is care about the loss of sales from this. That's enough for them to fight it for consumers.

I actually really do think Apple cares about its customers in a way other companies don't. Does that mean they are always going to put their customers' needs over their profit? Of course not. But I'd argue that the path they are currently taking with regards to this UK request is absolutely putting their customers first.

I expect a significant crack in the British government's argument was the leak of their objectives and subsequent reporting in the media. Which is to say, the judges probably concluded that the damage has already been done; no further practical value can be gained by attempting to hide the "fact of" from a population that already knows.

And by the court's decision to not permit a "secret" debate, it also makes a likely ruling easy to forecast: the government has very little hope of getting what they were seeking in both a practical sense and a judicial sense.

Any new factory built will rely heavily on automation. Trump may succeed in getting some factories, but it will not result in any significant number of blue-collar factory jobs. Only about 50% of human labor is truly required to fulfill the demands of commerce and industry. Automation/AI has already changed the nature of labor and it will continue to do so, lessening reliance on labor. The economic singularity is coming. By trying to drag the country back 150 years, Trump may actually hasten the singularity by breaking what still works.

Small businesses are the only ones that care about customers.

Even Discover with their "excellent customer service" is selling themselves to Capital One -- a move that isn't customer friendly at all.

Oh but I hope the do. The sight of sweatshops and assembly lines manned by ham-fisted cowboys is too appealing.

Who wrote this article? An AI? It’s awful..

“Apple has filed a legal appeal against ‘A’ UK government”… we only have ONE government just like America.

“follows reports that the ‘UK’ used it’s Investigatory Powers Act”.. No, the UK did not do that, the UK ‘Government’ did.

“The UK wants a back door”… No, the UK ‘Government’ wants a back door.. not the entire nation!

“The UK’s order was particularly controversial”… No the UK ‘Governments’ order, again not the entire nation.

And then to make you look even more ridiculous when you type this:

“The US ‘government’ is reportedly investigating whether the UK’s demand”…. So in one nation it’s a government, in another it’s the entire nation…???

Seriously amateur hour writing.

As for the substance of the article I support Apple, but that might mean I lose out on their services here in the UK.

How do you feel about Florida reducing child labour laws? Search for "florida child labor laws" first factories are going to be built in Florida
How do you think it’s been in other parts of the world?! Do you believe multi-nationals went off shore for the sunshine.

This is a case where the interests are aligned. I do believe Apple does not want the UK to do this to its users.

I also believe Apple does not want to deal with constant back door access and the inevitable horrible data breaches that would lead to.

Like how the Chinese have been using US "lawful access" to the US telephone system to spy on the US for years. By the US government's own admission.
