I’m planning on setting my 12 Pro up as a new phone from scratch, but don’t want to lose my watch data. How is this achieved?

Thanks
When you unpair the watch from the phone it creates a backup of the watch and this is stored in iCloud, when you re-activate the watch using your new phone it should ask you if you want to restore from backup

I still use two phones rather than physical and eSIM, there is something about work stuff going to my “usual” phone that annoys me.

Can’t get damaged like a physical sim. Useful for when abroad in countries which isn’t supported for included roaming, when I went to Qatar it was easy to just put a local sim in and not have to worry about things messing up and keep my U.K. line active still with data off. Security benefit as well that people can’t quickly take your sim out if it’s stolen

On a slight side note here guys. I know there have been lots of reports of iPhone battery draining fast with iOS 14, and its affecting me :( but does anyone know if this is because of the new NHS covid 19 app and if its not, how does one fix the drain? Hoping my iphone 12 pro won't drain as fast as my current is :/

Seeing 1% battery use on mine from exposure notifs on iOS 14.0.1, what phone do you have? I think the iPhone 7 was the last phone without Bluetooth 5.0 which might be a bit more battery saving idk.

Also I would recommend reading the white paper on the API if have doubts, I don’t have any privacy concerns personally after reading and if it stops even some infections it’s worth having.

Have you tried installing yourself before? Is it manageable?
I know tho that it has the tray for installation but no squeegee will be a bit hard for bubble removal. I got one ordered for delivery but want to try myself.

I used to get the Belkin ones fitted in the Apple store until I found the Spigen ones. They come with a frame and are dead easy to fit. 100% perfect fit. Just bought again for my new 12 pro max.

Spigen, 2 Pack, Screen Protector... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08FLVK14V?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

😍

Thanks for that...it has put any doubt I had about my colour choice to bed.

I spoke to EE on the phone on the sales number somebody helpfully provided about applying corporate discount to the full works plan and they wouldn’t budge on that or on the price of the plan for sim only or full phone contract, might try live chat next

live chat has always been helpful for me

Just a heads up.

O2 online are selling the silicon cases and they come with a free anker wireless charger worth £19.99.

Anyone can do it and the delivery is normally pretty good. They have most of the colours too!

Seems like a good deal.

Only if you restore the phone from backup too, otherwise you need to set the watch up as new as well (see here)

Anyone planning to go without a screen protector?
I’ve never used one. I just keep my phone in a separate pocket from anything else and have never had any screen damage.
No screen protector for me. Haven’t used one on any of my previous iPhones from my 7+, X and 11 Pro, and never had a single scratch or mark on the screen, not exaggerating. Had all phones in an Apple leather case and that’s it.
The phones have been in my pockets, dropped while in the case and so on.
I really don’t think screen protectors are needed anymore with the glass becoming stronger and stronger and could, if not applied right or if it is a cheapish one, just make the phone look abit naff overtime

So two things...
Firstly very much hoping my COVID test is negative otherwise I can’t pick my phone up on Friday 😫
Secondly, just thinking about migrating data to the new phone... I presume iOS 14.1 will be released alongside the new phones/maybe even today (can’t remember how they’ve done it previously) - but am I right in thinking if we upgrade to that on our old phones and it’s not yet out on the new ones then it’s more of a pain to migrate data? (I.e. we have to update the new phone to iOS 14.1 if it isn’t already).
Is the best idea leaving the current phone on the current iOS? Or if the new one is on iOS 14.1 out of the box, do I need to be on that with my old phone to migrate data?

Ideally I think both should be on the same version, but IIRC you can migrate from an older version to a newer but not the other way round. Why not play it safe and not update your current phone, then see what the new ones come with? Bet some of the reviews will mention it.

It looks like my bank momentarily stopping my payment has now delayed my iPhone until the 3rd November. My wife and a friend of mine ordered after me from the same company and theirs say 23rd October. Quite disappointed by that and I think i’ll have to complain this morning and see if I can get it pushed through sooner. I ordered the phoned at 13.08pm on Friday, just 8 minutes after preorders went live. The bank blocked the payment 30 minutes later and I resolved it within 10 mins. So annoying.

That sounds like a good plan, cheers!

If your a student you can use your 20% discount as well so only £39.20 for the case and free charger!

Thanks for the heads up! Wife is a teacher and was just able to take advantage of the same student discount offer! Will be collecting on Friday morning from the O2 store 200m away from the Apple Store :)

I have an iPhone 11 which always saw all day battery life before iOS 14. Its just that the NHS app came out I think about a week after iOS 14 did and to be honest I am pretty sure it was the iOS update that triggered the battery drain. And forgive me for asking but what do you mean by white paper on the API? 😂
