Which Model are you getting?

I’ve not an instore walk-in for an iPhone on launch day but did do one for the iPad 2.

Was in the “no I don’t need one of these” camp right until the night before launch.. randomly woke up at 5am on the launch morning and thought “f*** it, I’m going to buy one!” Was at the regent st store at 6am and the queue had snaked around the building! They handed out tickets based on what stock was available and I didn’t get the one I wanted, but took the next best anyway!

By the time I got home I’d seen Tesco still had them for sale and got the model/colour I wanted delivered the next day!

After that I decided to always do it online 😂

Doesn't let me without choosing another phone atm!
so you're going to just hand the phone back to Apple as a part of IUP? not considered selling it and paying off the loan and pocketing the profit?

if you're doing IUP as apple intended, I'm pretty sure you'll have the option to pay the remaining if not when you reserve online, but when you pick it up

....making a profit would depend on which iPhone you have I guess - my iPhone 12 only gets me around £380 now on MM vs the loan amount still outstanding with Barclays: 12 x £35.37 = £424.44.

and about £100 back from AppleCare.

but yes, you would have had to lock in a price before now to make the most of it

Here's a thought I don't think I've seen discussed here before.

iPhones have historically been very good at holding their value when resold, but are we starting to see a downturn?

Initiatives like iPhone Upgrade, iPhone Payments, Barclays 24 month interest-free credit etc have made it easier than ever to buy these high priced phones every year. And services/retailers like Music Magpie, Mazuma Mobile, CEX etc have made it easier than ever to sell second hand devices on.

Too easy to buy = too many second hand devices = less offered for them on the second hand market?

Dino's example above is interesting as I've never seen Music Magpie's buy price drop so quickly before.

Just got off the phone with EE executive complaints, they said they have no plans yet but they are going to call me back after the apple event to discuss more. I got my 12 pro max on the launch in November so I’m confident they will remove the £100 fee. I’ll keep everyone updated

Hope so. EE do have some kinda special relationship with Apple. So I don't think they'd want to annoy all there Apple fans with a silly £100 upgrade fee!

They likely will, they did when I got my 11 pro max and for everybody who rang up got it done.

And this suggests depreciation on iPhone 12 has been the fastest in recent years

iPhone's apart, which cases are you guys planning of getting? I just hope the Apple Leather cases are better quality this year. I usually get my case before the phone arrives.

Interesting information thanks.

Sounds like we're all gonna have to shift our 13's much earlier next year before the 14, I reckon the 13 will lose even more value than the 12.

I ended up with white silicone last year to match my white/silver 12 Pro Max. Case still looks brand new.
Had to return California Poppy & Saddle Brown cases to Amazon as I swapped my initial 12 in gold for the white.

Going matte black with the 13 but case choice will depend on available colours, I would ideally like a leather this year.

I usually avoid third party cases, nothing against them but I just prefer stock Apple.

I am going for the Apple black silione case this time. For the 12 Pro I tried the clear case, it wasn't great. I also have the blue leather and black silione, the black silicone was used most.

What’s peoples opinions on bumper style cases here? I quite like the look of the Rhinoshield ones

I want to be able to see the beautiful colour that I choose on the Pro Max!

I only ever had one bumper case, it was free as part of the signal issue fix on the iPhone 4. It was ok, but as the back of the iPhone 13 will probably be glass I feel happier with a standard case.

Ive done it 3 times now. First was in store, 2nd was via post for the 12 pro max launch and 3rd was digital via the website/app yesterday when I went back to my XS max. The process is straight forward and the 50p is charged to your next bill so will have to see if they actually charge this.

You can do the purchase on your old phone. Once you log into your new phone just sign into the app and you should have the option to download the esim to the device. As I mentioned previously it took 40 mins before I realised I needed to do a reboot for the sim to activate but it’s not mentioned anywhere. Only found out after I went on chat. They also said it could take btw 4 - 24 hrs.
It's the up to 24 hour part that really puts me off, at the moment with my Sim card it takes just a few seconds.

Great bit of info - thanks for that.

Some observations/musings:

- iPhones 7 and 7 Plus depreciated hard because of iPhone X, so lots of people upgrading?
- Most Plus and Max phones depreciating harder than their normal sized counterparts
- iPhone 8 Plus depreciating much less because fewer people bought them due to iPhone X?
- iPhone 11 depreciating much less as more people hanging on to them?

.....I've never liked just bumper cases as it makes the phones feel too wide when in the hand + your fingers have to naturally rest on the bare naked iPhone back, which then makes it all 'fingerprinty and grimmy'!!!!!!

my anxieties wouldn't be able to cope with a bumper case's lack of protection! :D

only ever had it once when Apple gave out free ones for Antenna-gate!
