A couple of point from my experience last year (might have changed for this).
- You can't use a code with a sale via the smart kiosk for some reason. so you have to leave say 'PHONETEN' off to get the kiosk as an option
- Evn though the kiosk will make the decision for you there and then and payout, for some reason you still need to allow time for it to get picked up and get delivered to them within the time window. this looks like it must be at least 3 days. last year i had until Tuesday whatever it was to get my phone to them and then went to a kiosk the Sunday before that only for the machine to re-quote me rather than what id locked in at. Following up with their support team it was apparently because it wouldn't have got from the kiosk to them in time. they wouldn't confirm exactly what lead time it was though.
2 questions:

1. At the SMARTDrop kiosk did you have and use a QR Code relating to your locked in price?

2. How did you contact Customer Support? I’m struggling to find a method.

If you usually press the thumbs down or ‘it didn’t resolve your query’ option it might but you through to live chat or you may have to email them for a reply.

I had to do the latter when I asked what the battery health would be on their 2nd hand phones.

Q- i've received an Apple Store gift card, can I redeem this to my account before pre-orders go live to use towards my order or do i need to redeem it whilst processing the pre-order? I don't think i've ever used a gift card in conjunction with a preorder before
I’ve got a whole load of apple voucher credit sitting waiting to drop in a few weeks. You can load up the gift card to your account (and add to wallet if you wish too). When you check out you can choose the option to add the your vouchers too.

1. Yes, i seem to remember it was a QR code or reference number or something i got up on an email with what was my new iPhone 13 and then placed the old wiped 12 in the kiosk for review.

2. I think I resorted to email in the end as like you i found them difficult to contact immediately, e.g. phone. I'll see if i can dig out the correspondence, though i'll have to remember which of umpteen email addresses i might have used in the end

Music Magpie are currently offering £15.00 cashback for trade-ins via Quidco Premium Accounts. If you go via Quidco to activate the £15.00 cashback you can then also enter the "PHONETEN" code at the MM Checkout to get the additional £10.00 on the order. There is a good chance that using the "PHONETEN" voucher may cancel the Quidco Cashback but if not that would be a £25.00 boost to your trade-in valuation. If it does cancel the Quidco cashback you will still get the £10.00 boost on your order anyway.

Someone earlier mentioned that the Asda drop boxes wouldn't work on the iPhone 13 models but it has for me?

Did see that. Not sure if the small print mentioned new customers for it?

Adding a voucher will, as you say, most likely make them decline the quidco cash back

It's new customers only, but that is easy enough with a new email address. I fully expect using the voucher at the checkout will mean the cashback is declined but worth a punt as you never know and the potential gain vs the £5.00 difference is worth it.

Amazing, thanks for that!

It’s the smartdrop Asda what doesn’t work on the ip13 regular Asda drop off is fine

Ahhhh, didn't realize there was a difference. Is the Smart Drop where it scans your phone and does an evaluation to pay out instantly and the regular drop off they still need the phone to be collected and returned to the MM warehouse before paying out?

If I had planned this better, I would have bought a cheap phone I could use for 2 to 3 weeks while I waited for the new iPhone to come out, but I guess I can stay on the iPhone 13 Pro Max without many problems.

Yes, anyone know what the significance of ‘Far Out’ is?
Pocket-lint speculates that it might be an astrophotography mode for the iPhone 14 Pro.

Yes, I also think it’s related to the rumored astrophotography mode.

Additionally, the term “Far out” was popularized in the 60s by the hippie culture to refer to something as cool, fresh, hip, or “other-wordly”, originally in connection with hallucinogenic experiences had during drug trips. Especially as you laid out on the grass and stargazed into the night sky (ok I made up this part, but it’s not unlikely).

No doubt Apple used the term as another nod to its California roots. As Craig would say, thanks to their “crack” marketing team 😆.

Apple is always good at picking terms that tie it all together, which I love.

Correct

Can't believe (but not surprised...) I am here again. I did some maths this morning if it will be 'worth it' for me to upgrade, and am actually surprised by the numbers. Can someone look through these and if it makes sense?

My situation is I am almost 100% sure I will buy the iPhone 15, for the rumoured 10x telephoto camera or USB-C alone. Have a 13 Pro 256GB. So I thought I would easily skip the 14, but running the numbers of what I should do in the next year:

If I keep my 13 Pro, then buy 15 Pro
price = £1100
AppleCare: £9.50 * 24 (I pay monthly) = £228
total cost = £1328
estimated sale price in Sept 2023 (going by 12 Pro price right now) = £540
ownership cost over 2 years = (total cost - sale) = £776

If I sell my 13 Pro, then buy 14 Pro then buy 15 Pro
price = £1100 (13 Pro) + £1100 (14 Pro)
AppleCare: £9.50 * 24 (I pay monthly) = £228 - assuming no change in AppleCare prices
total cost = £2428

iPhone 13 pro sale price = £725 (locked in MM)
iPhone 14 pro sale price = estimated £725

ownership cost over 2 years = 2428 - 725 - 725 = £978

Difference between owning 14 Pro for a year or not = £978 - £776 = £202 over 2 years

If my maths is correct, this makes it hard not to upgrade to the 14 Pro, even if it is a minor upgrade. My intuition had me 'saving' something like £300-500 by skipping the 14 Pro.
Indeed. Because of resell value its actually cheaper to upgrade annually.
Not a fan of AppleCare though. Not when excess is £70+

I’m just wondering whether we are at cross purposes. It seems that there are 2 options for getting your iPhone to MM via Asda. The first is to use them as a drop off point (rather like the Post Office) and the second is to use the SMARTDrop method as shown in the attached video. Am I right in thinking that you didn’t use the SMARTDrop machine which is supposed to sort everything out there and then?
