Yea i have to hand it in store, i thought id have to do the 14 day package too.. first time ive done trade in with apple
I went in store on Friday and even though I initiated the online trade in they did it for me there and then and credited the £350 off the total, nice and smooth.

I wish people wouldn’t assign a gate to things.

The original reference to Watergate was a USA political scandal in the 70s.

Wikipedia said:
The suffix -gate derives from the Watergate scandal of the United States in the early 1970s, which resulted in the resignation of US President Richard Nixon.[2] The scandal was named after the Watergate complex in Washington, D.C.; the complex itself was named after the "Water Gate" area where symphony orchestra concerts were staged on the Potomac Riverbetween 1935 and 1965.[3]

I'd take it for granted that prices outside USA will go up…

I am ready to buy a 12.9" Pro, but waiting for the expected release in October.
But wondering if I shouldn't just nab a 2021 model right now. No bugs and issues… no expensive beta testing required from my side. 🙂

I'd vote for Spigen EZ Fit any time.
Never failed me yet…
you might find the price of the 2021 model drop at resellers once the new one comes out..(if you're not precious of buying direct from apple)

if I were in your position, I'd get my apple order and be checking store stock in the mean time... I'd be very confident of securing some store stock be the end of oct!
I can wait, I still have my 12 Pro. Going for the Max this time to get the bigger, better screen. That, a new battery and the better camera are the main drivers for the upgrade.

My current haul.

Just waiting for my phone to be delivered now… 🙄

People have said it’s not quite the full width and that the Spigen EZ fit does a better job.

Keen to hear your opinions.
The ESR Amorite is brilliant. Preferred it to the Spigen EZ on the 13 PM especially because of the black borders and installed the ESR straight away on my 14 PM so haven’t actually tried the spigen this time round

Okay, so, I know there's an "are you returning" thread, but thought I'd post here to get the opinion of my U.K. OGs.

Is anyone else feeling just a bit melancholy/'meh" and/or massively underwhelmed?
Well as they say, "Post coitum omne animal triste est".
Often confused with "Buyers remorse", though similar not the same…

Lots of expectation and build up and then after the event, a feeling of loss creeps in.

So… many people go shopping again for something new to dull the sensation. And repeat.

🙂

I moved from a 13 Pro Max so I wasn't expecting much, but the whole experience has been a damp squib. Firstly, there was the "camera-gate". I don't use Snapchat, but do Instagram and as soon as I heard the buzzing, I stopped. I'm sure there's no lasting damage (I also have AC+). Yes, you could blame the developers but these are some of the most popular apps around.

Secondly, the AOD not being "fine-tuned" (too bright/not subtle) and the battery drain. Thirdly, the "haptic keyboard" causing battery drain. Just feels like, right now, it's a phone that's just there to look pretty. Don't expect to use any of the features and retain any semblance of acceptable uptime without needing to charge.

Yes, the screen is SO MUCH brighter - but I dare not keep on full brightness for long.

I tried the camera outdoors properly yesterday and whilst I'm no professional photographer, I couldn't particularly see any significant improvement. And some of the photos I shot at night were just a horrible (noisy) mess. I had my "work" Pixel 6 Pro and that did so much better. Not to mention it has WiFi 6E and reverse charging - saved me quite a few times! It's a fraction of the price.

I know a lot of the above gripes will/can be addressed through software revisions - but any hardware is only as good as the software on it and it feels like it's just an incredibly "unfinished" product? I can't help but think this whole push for "annual upgrades" and the upgrade programme etc. has kinda forced Apple's hand on the product development cycle and/or it has come to rely on the surge of cashflow in this particular month? Rather than delay a new product launch until both hardware/software are ready it is forced to stick to this schedule?

The phones are incremental changes yearly and have been so for many a year. its the same 'feeling' as from going 12 > 13... but those increments add up.

does the 14 do anything more for me than my 13 did... tbh no, it looks and feels the same, the software (minus the island) is the same and the improvements in camera, for me who just points and shoots 99% of the time, are negligible.

yes its the software what makes the device and clearly apple have a lot of work to do here. (what state will Ventura be in when that lands!).

but... and a big BUT

we're all going into this open eyed, we know the phone is marginally different to the previous year, but we accept that and want to be on the bleeding edge of things... we're the ones who take down the apple store from hammering of F5, help the stock levels disappear on release day and we know there are bumps in the road. I'm happy to be on that bandwagon.

Is it the Pro Max you've gone for? If so (unless something has changed in the past week), those Memumi cases don't fit. There's a big gap under the LiDAR sensor that lets dust/lint etc right in (it's a large gap) and because it's quite hollow you can feel it being pushed in when you're holding the phone.

Personally, I think Apple hit the pinnacle of iPhone design years ago (they're just rehashing old designs now - the 14 has the design of the iPhone 4 almost), so its all about the software nowadays.

I kept my 13 Pro for many of the reasons you mentioned above.

the lightening cable will be the limiter here... it only supports up to 27w.. and that won't be consistently.

Yeah, it seems like the difference in charging speeds between the 20w charger and 30w charger are minimal: https://www.chongdiantou.com/archives/175427.html (great use for safari’s translate to English!)

I’m gonna save £10 and buy the 20w again.
