BT had Cellnet, which became O2.

Three’s owner, Hutchison, owned half of Orange. They sold Orange to France Telecom.

Mercury (later Cable & Wireless) owned One 2 One, which became T-Mobile.

Obviously the last two merged to form Everything Everywhere, which was such a ridiculous name it got shortened to EE. BT bought the combined company from France Telecom and Deutsche Telekom.

My first mobile phone was an Ericsson T10 on One2One back in 1999 lol. Amazing how far things have come.

I remember the T10. I think Ericsson had a falling out with Orange, so it was a while before you could get an Ericsson phone with them.

If I recall correctly, they had good performance on the network, fewer dropped calls than some other manufacturers.

My Belkin 3 in 1 also showed up a few days ago. Really impressed with the build quality. No regrets getting it with the 25% off voucher.

Semi back on topic, but I heard that when O2 launched the iPhone it was called Project Bono. Why Bono? Because it was useless without EDGE (enhanced data rates for gsm evolution). Before EDGE, 33Kbps was about as fast a data connection as you could get.

Then obviously 3G came along.

You might have answered your own question. Both Bono and The Edge are members of the band U2.

I know 🙂. O2 had to rollout EDGE because nobody would want to use the iPhone on GPRS. It would have been 5x slower (EDGE gave about 150Kbps, GPRS about 30Kbps).

Both still better than circuit switched data, which maxed out at 28Kbps but used two channels on the radio interface.

Braided loop arrived from cex as new but too big so willl have to return to store and order a smaller size £33.95 much more bearable than Apple price

My iPhone pro 128gb space black order has been preparing for dispatch since Thursday. What’s taking so long
Same, iPhone 14 Pro Max 128GB Space Black, ordered 20 minutes after the pre-order began because the Apple Store app consistently failed to accept my address despite it being correct, had to go to a computer and do it. Got a slot for delivery between 03/10 & 10/10. It's been preparing to ship since 29/09.

my first phone was on contract with one2one.. the baby Ericsson flip thingy!

no inclusive minutes or text and data wasn't even a thing! how fast things have changes over the short time..

you paid line rental and then for every minute you used it... that was when you actually made calls with the phone (well we used to dial peoples voicemails and directly leave them messages) never a charge to pick up voice mail!

don't know why I read that as project boner at first glance!

Half an hour later, I've just got the shipment confirmation email and it's due for delivery tomorrow!

I've got a 165mm wrist measurement and got a size 7 braided loop from apple... have to say its sooo comfortable!

its my casual and night daily driver now. the Hermes saved for when I see people who aren't on the school run!

Im happily sticking with physical sim until there's a need to actually change. just the recent Hokey Cokey chaining phones has saved me a tonne of hassle!

also discounted getting an Apple Watch plan... £7 a month for no real use. EE should include it in a limited fashion as a smart benefit or something.. get people using it and then upsell for more data!

I do have a data plan for my watch but rarely use it to be honest..

I’m sticking with a physical sim for as long as possible

I've never had a cellular watch before, assuming I keep this AW Ultra, I'm trying to decide if I need to activate the cellular on it or not?
