That article is also over four years old and was written only a couple of weeks after the first iPhone was launched.
The system may have changed since then.

Assigned Carrier SYNCREON PARCEL DELIVERY - who the Smeg are they?
British based freight logistics company. That means they're almost definitely shipping from UK, likely to a delivery hub, where they will then be passed on to a more well known courier.
Those that are shipped around now might even see delivery today if they're lucky. Any later than shipped about 3am would mean they will get to the delivery hub about 7 or 8am (guessing) - which is a little too late to load on to the vans to start the morning delivery as the vans are typically out by 7am.
wtf? I just caught up with prepare for shipment, and now you spring "Shipped" on me?

No one is getting the phone tomorrow.
It will come on Friday. I don't want to disappoint anyone but its true - Apple won't ship it before it is too late to deliver on Thursday.
Even the phones that say shipped are probably still in the depot waiting for every other phone to be changed to shipped BEFORE they are picked up.
It is just the system confirming that it is ready to be picked up.

Mine was apparently loaded at around 1800. No movement since, it is in the midlands though! Not a long journey down to M1 to sunny Surrey.
Gives estimated delivery date as the 14th.
