They aren't advertising those speeds but stating that's what you should expect. It doesn't mean you won't get faster speeds on 4G. There is no point making assumptions and better to wait until there are people out using 4G and can give real world speed tests. In the US and Canada people are getting as much as 65mbps download and as much as 20-30mbps upload. We will have to wait and see what kind of results people get here.

That said obviously there are data limits on EE's 4G plans where as there are 3G plans with unlimited data out there at lower prices. Personally I'm very interested in 4G as I mainly use my phone for web browsing, email and social networks. If it makes those a lot faster then it would be worth it for me. I only tend to do streaming and downloads on Wi-Fi only anyway.

Tests performed by BBC today showed fastest speed was 19mbits...funnily enough exactly the same as my 3G.

3 successful reservations for 2 x 64GB black each today
I am just going to collect two for my friends in the closest Apple store.
So, can forward to someone who want to try to collect 1 or 2 iPhones in Milton Keynes or London White City for tomorrow.
I collected iPhone 5 with email confirmation only with no problem.

----------

If anyone want to collect ONE 64GB black on Watford tomorrow, please also let me know.

Could you PM me for White City tomorrow?
Thanks!! Excited!

And that proves what. I'm not saying we will see faster speeds but speeds will vary depending on location and different variables. You don't know any more then anyone else what the speeds will be in various locations. The service was only introduced today and I think we need to wait for more real world tests by different people in different locations. Why would you assume just because that's what the BBC got that is the maximum.

I think there is a chance of a slight reduction in stock coming again, Apple have launch date number 3 now approaching on the 2nd of November.

http://easternmorningherald.com/app...reece-india-and-mexico-on-november-2/1221520/

Apple’s sixth-generation handset, the iPhone 5, will be debuting in several more countries on Friday, November 2, including Greece, India and Mexico.

There will be a total of nine countries included in the November 2 release schedule. Aside from the three countries mentioned above, the iPhone 5 will be released on that date in Bulgaria, Croatia, the Dominican Republic, Malta, Romania and Thailand. The most-anticipated iPhone 5 release schedule, however, will take place in December as the device will be released that month in China.

Ok, we'll see. Having said that there's only 11 locations, so I can't get that excited about it, it's fairly useless once you leave the city limits.

Well....I got fed up waiting and tried the reservation route. Booked at 3 London stores...and too my surprise one cam through. So picked up my 32 gig white iPhone 5 this morning! Yahoo...and cancelled my online order.

I ordered an EE 32gb black yesterday. I got a 12month contract... with 8gb data. This actually costs the least over 12 months, when device cost is factored in. It costs 822 over 12 months, same as 3gb data. 500mb and 5gb data cost more, both at 832 over 12 months. So, it makes no sense not to go for the highest data allowance. Haven't looked at other capacities or 24 month contracts though.

trying 4G in central London and have been getting on average 25mb down and 15mb up. feels crazy fast.

Blimey, I've just done some Man Maths and you're right.

12 months on the 8GB tariff at £66pm = £792.
Up front EE want £29.99 for a 32GB handset or £139.99 for a 64GB handset.

So in total over the 12 months it's £821.99 (£792 + £29.99) with the 32GB, or £931.99 (£792 + £139.99) with the 64GB.

EE's handset subsidies are quite generous though... Apple want £599 for the 32GB and £699 for the 64GB! I guess EE must be buying them at quite a discount from Apple.

£821.99 total - £599 (Apple handset cost) = £222.99 for the actual service over the year. Divide by 12 months = £18.60 per month.
£931.99 total - £699 (Apple handset cost) = £232.99 for the actual service over the year. Divide by 12 months = £19.41 per month.

If I don't go EE, I'll be continuing my £20 SIM-only tariff with O2 and buying an unlocked handset from Apple. I've got unlimited texts, I can't remember how many minutes (I only use 800 per month), and unlimited data but no tethering. So minutes and 4G would be an upgrade with EE (plus their 3G coverage is better than O2), but it'd be only 8GB rather than unlimited data.

12 more months at my current £20pm = £240. I'd be paying either £599 or £699 for the handset from Apple. That'd either be £839 or £939 total... which are both more than going with EE!

OK I'm quite confused here...

I signed up with Orange a few weeks after the iPhone 5 came out to their £36 a month tariff with 1gb of data. The chap instore told me I'd get 4G when it was available at the end of the month as they are the same company as EE.

My phone has been showing EE for the last few weeks but as of yesterday I am still yet to get LTE showing up? I am in a 4G area, but reading through some posts it seems I have to switch tariff? Is this true as this was not what I was told when I signed up.

Pretty much. You have to switch to a similarly priced tariff on EE, granted for free, but you'll also be restarting your contract as a result.

I thought it was made clear pretty early on...

Here's a quote of my post earlier in this thread (September 16th):

Orange & T-Mobile today announced they will offer iPhone 5, the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever, to customers in UK beginning Friday, September 21. For more information please visit: www.orange.co.uk/iphone5 or www.t-mobile.co.uk/iphone5. For more information on iPhone 5, please visit: www.apple.com/iphone.

Orange and T-Mobile iPhone 5 customers will also be able to move to EE – to get superfast 4G – when it launches in the coming weeks. They can register their interest at www.ee.co.uk.

The UK’s first mobile 4G network will be offered by EE, a new brand from the company behind Orange.

As an Orange customer, you’ll be able to move to EE for superfast mobile internet the moment it lands - here’s how:

  • get the 4G ready iPhone 5 from Orange
  • we’ll be in touch when EE launches
  • check where you can use 4G at ee.co.uk
  • sign up to the new EE plan of your choice
  • we’ll send you a new SIM and you’re good to go

4G: Subject to coverage. UK only. Pay monthly only. When 4G launches a compatible plan on EE is required. Charges may apply and you'll have to agree to a new minimum term on EE. Other terms apply. Superfast 4GEE: just how fast your 4G will be depends on a couple of things: where you are and how many other people are using 4G too. Have a quick look at ee.co.uk for more info.

Essentially what EE’s saying is that you should sign up with Orange or T-Mobile right now. You’ll then be able to break your Orange/T-Mobile 3G-only contract early and swap to a new 4G contract, essentially upgrading to a new EE plan. If your price per month on the new EE 4G plans is the same or more than your old 3G-only plan, then the early upgrade will cost you nothing (but you'll obviously be paying the cost of the new EE plan instead). If not, well, there’ll be some sort of upgrade fee. You’ll also have to sign for two years again. Rumour is the new EE 4G plans won't include any SIM only ones, and they'll all be +£10 compared with the equivalent Orange/T-Mobile contract.
That was my post on September 16th.

Orange and T-Mobile today announced they will offer iPhone 5 in the UK beginning Friday, September 21. Customers can pre-order iPhone 5 through all retail stores, via telesales and online at www.orange.co.uk/iphone5 and www.t-mobile.co.uk/iphone5. Orange and T-Mobile will allow iPhone 5 customers to connect to its fast HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA networks with Wideband Audio. EE will offer iPhone 5 on its 4G LTE network with Wideband Audio when it launches in the coming weeks.

iPhone 5 is the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever, completely redesigned to feature a stunning new 4-inch Retina display; an Apple-designed A6 chip for blazing fast performance; and ultrafast wireless technology—all while delivering even better battery life. iPhone 5 comes with iOS 6, the world’s most advanced mobile operating system with over 200 new features including: the all new Maps app with Apple-designed cartography and turn-by-turn navigation; Facebook integration; Passbook organization and even more Siri features and languages.

“We are thrilled to offer iPhone 5 to our Orange and T-Mobile customers and look forward to launching EE’s superfast 4G service in the coming weeks for iPhone 5 customers to enjoy all the phone’s amazing new features on our new network,” said Pippa Dunn, Chief Marketing Officer, Consumer, EE. “Anyone purchasing iPhone 5 on Orange or T-Mobile will also have the option to upgrade to EE’s 4G network as soon as it launches.”

Orange and T-Mobile customers will enjoy faster 3G thanks to the fact they will be on the UK’s biggest and best 3G and 2G network. iPhone 5 customers on EE will get access to 4G, delivering superfast mobile internet speeds, typically five times faster than the current average 3G speeds. EE’s pioneering new superfast 4G service will launch in the coming weeks and will be available in 16 major UK cities, covering 20 million people by Christmas. Customers of all three brands will be served by Britain’s biggest, fastest and most reliable network.

If Orange and T-Mobile iPhone 5 customers want to upgrade to the new superfast EE 4G service when it launches in the coming weeks – or at any point in their existing contract- then the process will be made as simple as possible. If their new EE plan is the same term and price per month or more than their existing plan, the move will be at no additional cost.

I don't have any insider knowledge or anything, that was just from reading their own websites! If Orange/T-Mobiles staff were telling you a different story to what their own website said, that's naughty of them!

Just made the call to swap to EE, keeping myself on a £41 price plan which means I have to drop from 2GB to 1GB of data. Not sure if it'll be enough. If not I'll just change up to the £46 3GB plan in a few months.

Sim card's in the post and whereas I won't get 4G in my own town, I spend a lot of time in Birmingham, Nottingham, and Derby. All of which will have 4G in the next few months.

Have to say that I was expecting a lot more EE 4G customers in this thread... but I guess the high price for low data amounts has put us all off!

EE is just Orange/T-Mobile in disguise who's networks are hopeless unless you are slap bang in the middle of a town/city. And I say this as an ex-T-Mob corporate employee.

Plus anyone signing a ridiculously priced contract for just 500MB per month needs to be medically evaluated as soon as possible.

Even in the middle of cities they are poor. I'm currently in Hull and noticed really slow web browsing. I ran a speed test and i'm getting 0.15Mbps download, 1.30Mbps upload. Good job I'm sim only and on a 12 month contract, looks like I'll be moving carrier once again. I had to leave O2 earlier in the year because of poor reception when I moved house.

Orange was pretty crap in Edinburgh, but since they started sharing signal with T-Mobile a couple of years ago, I've never been happier. Even out of town, I get decent signal. Speeds vary, but generally, 3-7 Mbps.

As for the 500MB, I should remind anyone who doesn't already know and is under the age of 24 - Orange currently give you 1GB of extra data if you're under 24. Search U24 Orange. So you'd end up with 1.5GB of data.

I'm considering switching to one of the SIM only EE 4G plans but apparently they won't be available until a week on Friday on the 9th. I guess it'll give me time to monitor what others who have already switched or are switching are getting.

Third time lucky for me! Just received my email for a 32GB Black and Slate unlocked reservation tomorrow at Bullring!
