Got a confirmation that my (sim-free) iPhone 5 16 GB in black has been reserved for me in London tomorrow :D First time I tried reserving it! Hope my train gets in on time.

Does anyone know if I have to pass some kind of security check before I can purchase it? I remember Carphone Warehouse performed one with my debit card 3 years ago and I failed it for no apparent reason. Also, do I need to bring anything else apart from a valid photo ID?

I was told when i telephoned the store to ask what i needed to bring along with me that as i was paying via my bank debit card for my sim free iphone 5 ,that would be enough.

Obviously getting this on contract introduces different rules and paperwork that will be required.

Didn't ask for the e mail confirmation.
Didn't ask for any i.d

Just asked for my name to go get the reserved phone.

I did take my passport and print out of the e mail just in case.

No credit checks as your buying it sim free off contract.

You can change the collection times if you think you may be late although mine was reserved between 5pm and 6pm but ended up getting their early and picked the phone up at 4pm !

To be fair the store was ultra busy and the specialists were running round like the proverbial blue arsed fly !

This is just ridiculous. My friend went to apple store yesterday, reserved a black 32 a voila-got it today! Why can't I get my 64W? Are they so popular?

Hello everyone I've just joined this forum today.
I ordered my iphone 5 16th oct delivery estimate is 8th-14th nov
Hoping I'm a lucky 1 and get it the second week of nov

Ordered my iphone on 29th September and it was shipped on the 25th october, despite being from Northern Ireland I had fairly high hopes that it might have arrived before the weekend. Unfortunately an "exception" occurred when it was in Dundee at mid day on Friday. It was then bizarrely sent back to London and it's now been flown to Koeln, Germany.

I ordered my White 32GB on October 10th with the Lightning to 30 pin connector. It's scheduled for delivery between Nov 2nd-8th but is still processing. Is there any chance the adapter will delay the order?

That is bizarre. Why it even stopped in Scotland so many times? I know a lot of this is fairly automated, but surely that should flag up? What a waste of money shipping it around so unnecessarily.

That's the worst luck i've seen so far. Watching as it flys away from you.

Anyway. I'm also from Northern Ireland - I ordered on Oct 1st and the order is on "preparing for shipment" how long did this phase of the process last for you guys? And with the exception of the quoted post. how long does it take from being shipped to arriving to your door?

It's now departed from Koeln, god knows where it will end up next :D. Unless they fly directly to Belfast or Dublin it will inevitably end up going back to England. The whole thing seems rather counterintuitive

I wonder will it have to clear UK customs again? Probably not since it's still within the EU.

My phone's on the verge of missing the expected delivery dates as is - so if it decides to go to Germany i'll be extremely annoyed.

Update: Finally shipped! Should have it tomorrow according to Synceron - a carrier i've never heard of

It has been talked about on here about splitting your order if an item is on delay as this affects the whole shipping dates.

The lighting to usb cords are readily available now. Lots in my local 02 shop at £15 which last time i checked was cheaper than apples online prices !!

It was flown back England and then sent on to Newtonabbey in the middle of the night. Should get it today

A well travelled iphone !

Should get its own passport ;)

Anyone know if Meadowhall has 30pin-lightning adaptors yet? I know I could ring, but it seems a bit off to ring over accessories!

Also, my mate, who does potentially have a tendancy to make stuff up, claims he convinced the apple store to sell him a SIMO despite reserving for contract (by mistake).

Bull?

It depends on the store and the staff, maybe your friend was very charming.
Also. It looks like there are more 32gb than 64, whichnis strange to me considering how more people go for 32

When your iPhone gets activated, it gets locked. The iPhones are unlocked in their box. The Apple Stores may have different shelves for ones they plan to sell as contract and ones as unlocked, but there's nothing different between them.

There must be something different. Because why does the contract one lock when the off contract ones dont? My point was that they have been loaded with different software, one locks, one doesnt. They cant simply allocate you one from the contract pile as they will lock and you dont want that.

wrong. They lock because when the sales person sells the phone, he scans the phones bar code and then another bar code setting the lock type. That information goes back to Apple's activation server so that when you activate the phone, the correct SIM lock is applied.

There is no difference between SIM free stock and contract in terms of either hardware or software.

Anyone know the deal with EE? It's out tomorrow with these network but what time can you order your phone with them?

Can anyone help with this question? EE prices are crazy what network has promised to roll on 4G within the next year?

It's all done through activation. When you first get an iPhone, you have to activate. During this point, the iPhone asks Apple's servers, "am I to be locked to a carrier?", and the Apple servers respond with either yes, this is the carrier details, or no, you are unlocked.

I was in meadowhall picking up my reserved sim free iPhone 5 a couple of Saturdays ,and a young couple were trying for a long time to convince the specialist to sell them a sim free iPhone 5 ,even waving their credit card at her !

To no avail.

The sim free and contract models are to my knowledge different in that the contract ones lock out to the sim put into it.

They have very few sim free ones to have reserves put on them, so I wouldn't have thought they would not swap a contract one to a sim free version as they may be giving away a reserved one, unless they miracusley got some units in stock.

Not "bull" but very slim !

Yeah I agree. I've got some more info. He claimed he had an iphone 5, but it got nicked, so hes got a 'iphone 5 sim' (nano) and I suspect hes probably been sold a phone locked to orange/first network (which in his case is orange).

It could all be bollocks, but maybe they felt sorry for him?!

After a month of trying I got a reservation today!

The reservation is 100% guaranteed right? I don't want to cancel my online order which will be shipped out next week and then I can't get the phone in store tomorrow

Same here, got a reservation before my deadline after stopping by an apple store and asking them about stock. Happy as a child. Now to get 3 sim. If I am not a citizen of the uk can they sell me a pay monthly plan?
