Haha, I love the reference! ;)

So glad it came today though, today's my only day off this week apart from Friday afternoon and I have 1001 things to do. So much nicer having a nice, fast and bright phone to deal with all these emails on the exchange. :p

Haha, a fellow Bath based reader! I went into Southgate yesterday and I know they have stock of the 16GB iPhone 5S in white. Seemed to have a big shipment over the weekend of others too. Annoyingly I have to wait till Thursday for mine to arrive after ordering it online directly from Apple 3 weeks ago!

I got mine from Bath on the 31st. They said it was the first day they'd had any gold or silver phones, but it seems they've done well stock wise since then.

I missed my delivery so have to go pick it up or I'd only end up missing the second attempt. Not off until Friday and wasn't waiting any longer.

Looking at the above our phones were made in the same factory in the same week. :)

You should be quite happy with your phone tbh, the loose lock button on mine is a non-issue as far as I'm concerned. There doesn't seem to be any screen interlacing issues on this device (which is a plus over my old iPhones) and the colours and tint of the screen seems to be a lot nicer and clearer than the one on my iPhone 4.

Hope when you receive yours that you'll be as happy as I am with mine, it was definitely worth the wait. That said I love it so much that I'm up for work at 7AM and I'm still awake using the remainder of the battery from the first full charge. ;)

I had my 32gb grey model delivered yesterday.
Not happy with it for three reasons:
- the lock button rattles really badly
- the side casing had a dent in it from out of the box
- the vibrate motor sounded terrible, it rattled the whole body (but sounded sort of weedy at the same time?!?)

Has anyone else encountered the above?
I've setup a return and ordered a silver model, hopefully the next unit is better!
But it means waiting another 3 weeks without a decent phone.

Why didn't you get a replacement instead? Would have been with you within a week and you'd have got to keep the current one until it arrived.

Edit: apologies, I see you've decided to change colour; that explains it.

the only countries in the world who actually use AWS for LTE are Canada, US, Mexico and puerto rico

I hope the iPhone 6 unifys all this LTE mess

the one mistery I've always wanted to figure out is why north american carriers would pay billions of dollars for aws spectrum 700mhz 2100 1700 and the euro countries do the same for 2600mhz

why didn't they pick the same god damned thing? what are the advantages of 2600mhz over aws?

This is why I had to import my 5s from the US...I wanted the EU model until I found out it has no AWS support therefore no LTE from the US...

And I go there every year in the summer since 2009...

Thank goodness the US model also supports the UK bands as well otherwise I would not know WHAT model to pick...most likely the EU one because I live in the UK... -_-

*Or I could have waited for iPhone 6, but that doesn't guarantee more LTE support*

Any word on availability in Manchester (preferably Arndale)? Travelling to Manchester tomorrow and will be there for four days. Will I be able to pick up a phone easily or should I be at the store at opening hours? Looking for silver or gold 32gb.

How would anyone here know the situation over the next 4 days?
Call the store

Guys, anyone know of what stock levels are like in the London Stratford or London Regent Street stores?

What's the likelihood of me being able to walk into these Apple stores tomorrow and walk out with a 32GB Space Grey iPhone 5S? I'm thinking of going in at opening time.

Would appreciate some guidance.

Thanks! ;)

It's difficult to say, some people take a chance and get lucky. Better off either turning up (if local) or phoning ahead. :)

Birmingham Bullring Apple Store has all models of the 5s in stock (well they did about an hour ago).

I have just bought a 64GB Space Grey 5s there. Build week 42 factory F2. It had 7.0.2 installed and the level showed 4 degrees off the flat. The screen shows very slight flicker showing the test image posted here. I'm have just installed 7.0.3 and it has improved to -1 on long edge and -1 when flat. I will leave it over night on charge and with DND on to see if it sets to zero.

I haven't cancelled my online order yet...

UPDATE: No dead pixels, screen free of yellow and no dings to the case.

Strange this F2 and flicker huh? I must admit the F2 unit I had only showed flicker with the test image, I couldn't notice it in normal use.
How about the power button does it rattle?

I haven't spotted the flicker other than with the test screen, so I can live with that. The power button is much better than my first 5s - this one is a bit loose but does not really rattle like the first. If the level resets to zero I will probably keep it.

My online order (placed 31 October) will probably ship on Wednesday based on recent UK online orders - I'm hoping that is a recent (week 45) C3 with a properly calibrated level and zero flicker!

I personally don't belive in that DND thing :) but good luck, let us know.

I wouldn't go as far so say I believe in the DND thing either

It didn't seem to do anything for my first 5s when running 7.0.2. However, when I first installed 7.0.3 my level read 0,0,0 :). But it then started to drift when flat, so I put it on power + DND for a couple of hours, after which it had also drift off a degree on the long edge:mad: It stayed at 1,0,1 after that, so I returned it.

I'm hoping this one drifts from 1,0,1 to 0,0,0. I will report back.

UPDATE: Monday am and it is still 1,0,1 so it is going back.

I was passing Cribbs Causeway today so swapped my Space Grey 64GB again. I tried to engage the sales person to ask if they might give me one that has a recent production week but was told firmly that all iPhones are IDENTICAL spec so there was no point (ending the discussion).

This time I got a C3 but with a build week of 36 i.e. the first week in September! (the week BEFORE the keynote announcing the iPhone 5s). Why on earth has Apple had this phone hanging around for 2.5 months when stock has (supposedly) been tightly constrained?

It came with 7.0 installed, and I saw LTE rather than 4G displayed before I applied the carrier update.

Anyway, the good news - power button does not rattle, no dings in the case, no dead pixels and the screen does not show any flickering (even with the test image).

With 7.0, the level was 1 deg off long and short edge and 4 deg off when flat. I installed 7.0.3, and whilst the short edge is now 0, long edge is 1 deg off and 3 deg off when flat:mad:

So this one will be going back as well. My online order placed 31 October is still processing...

UPDATE: ok, after two hours on charge with DND it now reads 0,0,0 :D
I will leave it on charge with DND overnight, but it does look like this has worked with this one!

Damn, you are really unlucky with the level, did you upgrade or restore to 7.0.3?
