I'm so stuck this year... not a fan of the look of the 17 pro.... Like the Air but the specifications are killing me... I'm totally lost this year and I don't know what to get. Currently using iPhone 16 pro.

Honestly the base model is in with a shout for me this year which i never thought would be the case.

The issue with this new two-tone design situation is that the 'sticker' glass area changes so much in light, unlike the aluminium other area.

Take the Silver - which looks pretty nice here:

But then looks rather 'white sticker uggo' here:

This is also very glaring on the Orange version, but seems slightly less glaring on the Blue.

Maybe this is just one of those things where we all just get used to it in time and grow to love the aesthetic but I'm still feeling iPhone 6 vibes from it and even to this day I think it's the ugliest model ever created, especially coming from the superb run of iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 designs.

I don't know, the Blue looks much better, this looks like the phone has an adult diaper on... colours didn't match that well.

It's wild to think that for most of us Pro/best model users, this will be our first aluminium-bodied iPhone since before iPhone X, which marked the shift to stainless steel.

If I do get the Pro, it'd be my first aluminium iPhone since iPhone 7 (I skipped the 8 as it was announced with the X, and waited til the November for the X release that year, and we all know there was no 9).

Therefore a Pro this year would be my first aluminium iPhone for 9 years - my memory is far too poor to remember how beat up the aluminium bodies got (being case-less til I die)!

Definitely seems like there is a form-over-function and a function-over-form option this year. My heart wants the Air but the lack of ultrawide camera probably kills it for me as I use it quite often. (Plus no spatial recording so I’d feel even worse about my Vision Pro purchase :D)

The Pro isn’t exactly beautiful (still think the iPhone 6 looked worse…) but I won’t say no to better cameras and more battery life. The front camera especially seems like a genuinely useful upgrade.

Trying to decide between orange and silver. I love that there is a bolder colour this year for the Pro but it’s not quite what I’d have chosen… likely will go silver and a new green MagSafe wallet. I quite like this combo.

That does look quite nice - the wallet hides the ugly 'sticker cut out' and adds a bit of colour/character.

I said this in another thread but the cynic in me is inclined to believe Apple deliberately went back to aluminium on the Pros this year to cut costs, and used sleight-of-hand with waffling about cooling and talking about the colour/two-tone design shocks.

That way, they could spend less to produce the Pros per-unit, while still charging the same price, increasing their margins without getting in trouble for raising prices. Tariff-related perhaps?

I think it is clear this year is going to be a stopgap year for us and Apple, before we all go wild for the Fold next year (and I expect, the 'sticker' design is consigned to history).

Pro colours are not to everyone’s liking this year.
As a person who always and only bought Black iPhone, this is my first time going for the Blue... for obvious reasons.

But my IP14PM will be my backup, as the backup I have now (IP6plus) is showing its age lol.

I wanted to upgrade my wife's iPhone, but she is happy with her 16PM.

In a bit of a predicament at the moment. I currently have a 15PM and for a while have wanted to get a smaller phone. As most, I waited for this event to see what the new options were. I am rather disappointed by the lack of black/dark grey pro options this year round, as this has been my go-to option for years. I have a few ways I could approach this decision:
  • Keep my current phone and just put up with the larger size for another year, as functionally it's still totally fine.
  • Buy an iPhone 17 Pro (Silver or Blue) and slap a case on it, so the two-tone design won't be visible as I'm not the biggest fan.
  • Buy a regular iPhone 17 in black, as it now has as 120hz screen. I will be sacrificing on cameras, but it doesn't bother me that much, and I am also cautious about the battery size compared to my current phone and the 17 Pro.
Will think about it over the next couple of days, then hopefully would've made a decision...
