Louis Rossman is nothing more than some whiner with an axe to grind against Apple

Actually Louis Rossman is an honest tech repairman who just shares his honest experiences with the world.
He also shares many other truths, you will be surprised. For example his famous anti-dictatorship quote: "You will own everything, and they will be pissed".

Not going to lie, it was an unwritten rule at one point, new phone releases, expect your old phones to feel sluggish for a month. Maybe it was the update most likely released a week prior. Gradually it became less and less, until at least most everyone I know switched to android, freedom at last from the sluggishness AND may I add the overheating as well as the horrible lightning cables that loved to break so often as they did . I still use a mac , nothing really interfered , I found alternatives to airdrop so not missing that a bit . Think about it if anyone is on the edge .

Absolutely no, if I see my battery depleting faster I understand it’s the battery and I would think I need a new battery, if the phone slows down I would think I need a new phone.

I don’t recall other electronic devices being slows down for an aging battery..

for non-technical people, which is majority of apple users, random shutdown to them would suggest a new phone is needed. and this affects more than non-technical people experiencing throttling.

You have low esteem of non tech people. Everyone knows if it is dying because of power you need a battery.

Non tech people never had to repleace a cassette player because it was shutting down, they replaced batteries, when your camera dies because it shuts down you replace the battery not the camera.

C’mon people are not as dumb as you think they are.

Also if my phone stops working ( turn off by itself ) I am likely to go to a repair shop first to see if I need a 100€ battery rather than a 900€ phone.

If it slows down I am led to believe it is not up to par and I need a replacement.

my uncle literally bought a new iPhone because his 6s kept shutting down randomly
Oh I am sorry, didn’t know we were basing this entire case on 1 person.

Guess I was wrong then.

If your uncle did that then Apple was right , keep on moving folks , we solved the mistery.

My point stands, non tech people is not equal to complete idiot.

I am not saying your uncle is an idiot either, but 1 person does not make or breake my point.

We are talking million phones not one.

My family did the same. Also keep in mind, most repair folks at the time were too speedy, there was no such custom to reapply water resistant glue , the biggest issue was also the top glass and not the batteries, either way one ran the risk of having a non water resistant phone with a crooked installed screen ( if dents were present on the frame ) , so a new phone or switching to android was always on the table .

But apple always had battery issues , still remember when my apple watch original screen was dangling due to an expanded battery . Back to the point , this is about throttling , Apple literally settled out of court on this matter in the past . I do not think it was about battery welfare , rather its in the apple marketing playbook . Everything they do is intentional .

Apple should really start to make replaceable batteries possible.
And stop overcharging their customers for repairing.

Seriously. This has been going on for many years. If Apple insists that they care about the environment,
then now it's their chance to show it. People shouldn't have to replace their phones every year.

I would like to agree, but they're a monopoly, I don't really think they care to especially when their wealthy customer based continues to pay. Its more of a luxury company now than a general tech company . I want them to charge 50 bucks for an upgrade from 8 to 16 or 16 to 32 memory as well , but they seem fine sticking with 500 .

thankfully EU is working on mandatory repleaceble batteries.

2027 https://mashable.com/article/replac...officially,have replaceable batteries by 2027.

Had a 6s kept it a long long time, never ever felt was being throttled, gave me leukaemia though, think I could sue ?

Phone was working fine and after the update it was not

This is not true. A certain percentage of phones would randomly crash prior to throttling. A phone crash at the wrong time could have serious consequences.

I was not affected personally, but I endorse Apple's approach, which was to guard against crashing phones. Though, of course, they should have made it a configuration option for affected phones from the get go.

BTW, anyone who is expecting Apple - or any other manufacturer - to advertise the slowing down of their phones is on a hiding to nothing. I suspect that many security fixes involve additional code loops and checks that to some extent slow down your device. Remember a few years ago when a raft of problems were found with the Intel chips that powered Macs? The multiple security fixes put in place definitely slowed down the devices. I don't recall anyone advertising that they were being given an update that would slow down their computer, but Apple did the right thing in keeping their customers safe.

And my 6s ran flawlessly until 2 years ago when my oldest shut it in the door of a '96 Le Sabre. Actually still ran after that but it slowly died and quit booting soon after. Seems folding the top half inch over 45 degrees didn't agree with it. Blast Apple for not designing iPhones to be flexible....!111!1!!1one

To me this is just a bunch of nonsense that really amounts to Apple should have just maybe given people a bunch of $25 gift cards and everybody would have been fine, those people probably would have actually gotten more with the gift cards than the actual class-action.

I remember getting an email about my 2017 MBP because of its keyboard which luckily I’ve somehow never had problems with, my daughter still uses it to this day. I remember reading the instructions on how to claim, and I just kept thinking “Man this sounds like a lot of work just to get $10.” or however much it was.

I am still waiting for someone to make an actual class action against Apple about the Airpods Pro…now THAT has to be effecting waaaaay more people than what is reported by the media, and I can’t believe that there is not already a lawsuit for it in the first place!
I’ll bite. Why sue over AirPods Pro?

Who is a monopoly?

As a former 6S owner who had a free battery replacement, but the "new" battery was worse, I say this...sounds Gutmann

The issue is they didn't tell anyone, but it is a serious thing that to me is very deceptive. Apple throttled devices without telling people, thus making people think that their phone was getting slower / unable to cope with the latest versions of iOS/apps which likely led to purchasing a new phone. If people were aware that the slowdown was due to a degraded battery, they would then have the choice whether to get a new phone anyway, or spend 90% less and get a new battery fitted.
They did tell people. It was actually in one of the iOS release notes. Just no-one paid attention.

It's all about shaking down a hugely successful US company. The Europeans and the Brits hate that they were never able to reproduce the success of the US tech companies - they really can't stomach it. So they convince themselves the only way this could happen if those sneaky Yanks are cheating. Like slowing down your phone, not to save your battery or stop your phone from shutting down, they must have an evil plan to hypnotize you into buying a new phone.
