Hi guys, as we are less than one week away from the March Apple event where the new 9.7" iPad will be unveiled, what do we think or hope the price will be to buy it in the UK? I know we'll find out soon but just wanted to start some discussion.

I hope the prices and configurations are the same as the Air 2 which are as follows:

16gb Wifi - £399
64gb Wifi - £479
128gb Wifi - £559

16gb Wifi + Cellular - £499
64gb Wifi + Cellular - £579
128gb Wifi + Cellular - £659

I would be willing to pay an additional £100 on top of these prices for the new iPad.

Why. It's not unprecedented for them to keep the same prices for new models.

Well, if It's gonna be just a smaller size of current iPad Pro as rumors are telling us, then it won't be stay same price since iPad Pro has much better specs. Think about current iPad Pro 12.9inch models price, it probably will be close to it if new one is really same specs with current iPad Pro's specs and just bit smaller size.

Because this is more than a processor bump.

New digitizer for the pencil support plus 4 speakers, keyboard, etc...I don't see Apple doing this w/o increasing the price.

Now we'll see if those that wanted the pencil with the 9.7" tablet will put up or shut up.

If they switch from 16/64/128 to 32/128 like the large pro, I could see them possibly taking the 64/128 pricing from the air 2.

But I hope they'll keep the same pricing. Apple tends to increase the spec and keep the price the same. I don't care if it has fancy speakers or a different digitiser - the price didn't go up when they went to retina which was a much bigger jump in tech

Here's a conundrum for you though, IF its a member of this new Pro iPad range then I would suggest it will come with 32GB then 128GB of storage just like the 12.9 inch one does.

And that will confuse any pricing guesses. But I would say around £530 for the WiFi 32GB model. Because if it's a Pro iPad expect the price to match.

Apple are not selling the keyboard at cost - they will make a fair chunk of profit on every keyboard and pencil they sell. That being the case i don't see how they can justify charging more $$$ for the smart connector, processor bump and digitizer. As far as the speakers goes - i'd rather see a bigger battery (with quick charging)

I think the key thing to remember is that ipad sales have been falling for two years and as such Apple has to move to redefine the tablet. They need sales, which a price hike will negate.

I think they will try to raise ASP all the same, which i think they will do by going with the same 32GB/128GB sku's as the 12.2 inch model. I'd say the 32GB will go for £439 and 128GB for £529 (plus extra £100 for the LTE versions)

Bear in mind the exchange rate has changed quite a bit since the air 2 came out. Apple usually don't change the price during a products life, but they do adjust when new products are introduced. That alone is likely to make the new iPad more expensive than the old.

For speculation it is better to estimate the US price and then what that means for the UK

I don't think the rumoured bump in performance and features would mean them increasing the price. The chances are manufacturing the parts is more efficient and cost effective now allowing them to keep the same price. Also tablet sales have been stagnating and increasing the price isn't going to help this.

See my reply above in this post.

We've already established that the iPad market has already reached saturation and henceforth sales will consist of people upgrading older devices with a modest number of new sales in thrown yearly.

The last 2 years bear witness to that and I don't think 2016 will be any different...only that perhaps the upgrade numbers will swell this year.

Just wait and see what Apple says on the 21st. And don't be terribly surprised if there is a price increase. Apple is not in the habit of leaving money on the table.

Gonna have a guess based on today's info but reckon may need to add extra £30 on to these.

32GB wifi - £499
128GB wifi - £629
128GB wifi + cellular - £739

What you reckon?

The 32gig Air 2 is $599, which is on sale at the uk price of £479. That being the case I would expect it to come in at 479 gbp.

That is true. Hopefully that will be the case

Although I assume you mean the 64GB Air 2. How much would you say the 128GB wifi 9.7 Pro will be?

The Pound has dropped in value compared to the Dollar since the iPad Air 2 was introduced 18 months ago,

$599 converts to £497 including VAT at todays exchange rate and Apple always seems to add on a little bit extra so I'd expect it to be at least £529.

i think they'd try to stay below the £500 mark. so £499 for 32gb seems a good guess

i do think the price hike is a bad decision. we've had big spec inceeases in the past with no price bump - even a 4x screen resolution. ironically it might make me consider the larger screen one now

After today's rumours, I think your bang on with these price points. I came to those price points as well.

I think they'll try and stay under the £500 starting price as well just because anything higher either seems too much for people or because it will push people to the base 12.9" model.

Definitely could be time to change the prices due to the ForEx rate (sad for the £) but, combined with the anticipated base price rise could be really bad news for the UK (and other countries with weakening currency). A £500 tablet that performs the same as an 18 month old system isn't really going to shift a lot if units. To most people the keyboard connector and pencil compatibility are worthless as they won't spend the extra on these accessories.

In fact, $599 with a ForEx rate of 1.4 (which it has been since the end of 2015) and VAT adds to £515. As mentioned above, Apple normally add on a bit so I would suspect Apple might be tempted to price at £529 or £549. This would absolutely be comercial suicide for the UK market.

Looks like the Air 2 at launch was a great buy!

I'm also expecting UK prices to rise when the store comes back on Monday. The pound has staged a bit of a recovery in the last week or so, but Apple will probably have committed to higher prices now to make up for some lost ground.

Now I just need to decide if I can justify spending the extra for a 128gb.

64gb is the sweet spot for me!

I'm in the same boat. Think 128GB is going to be out of my price range. Maybe I'll be ok with a 32GB. Here's hoping there will be a 64GB but doesn't look likely

I'm not sure if I'm going to get one. I may just stick with my iPad Air 2 which still runs perfectly fine. I'm not sure how beneficial a keyboard and pencil would be on a 9.7 inch display. I'm not even sure if I'd use the pencil and if I wanted to do any real work I'd find it much easier to use my MacBook Air.

The price increase would also make me stop and think. I currently have a 128GB iPad Air 2. It sounds like the base model of the iPad pro 9.7 will cost almost as much as I paid for my iPad Air 2 with 128GB.
