UK to Use Apple-Google API in NHS Contact Tracing App

Google and health data don't mix. Even when pretend anonymizing occurs which isn't something Google would want to happen as they can't monetize your data.

Yikes. I knew there would be a lot of conspiracy theory people that would refuse to use this. I didn’t expect to see so many on this forum.

I can’t wait for the day these people find out that their location can already be tracked when they have their phone connected.

This isn’t about taking away your rights, spying, or what they will do in the future. This is about controlling the current pandemic. If you are worried about the other things, then you should use it now so that you will all be alive to make sure it goes away in the future.

Sometimes you can’t save people from their own stupidity. Sadly, with this virus they can end up taking others with them.

Don’t consider myself paranoid or a conspiracy theorist but the day you talk about already came and went... Edward Snowden ring any bells?

You can tell yourself what you like about what this is and isn’t. The way you’re talking, you’re making this thing sound like a certain death sentence for everyone, which it is not. The vast majority of people affected by this thing have experienced mild to no symptoms. Equally, the vast majority of deaths have occurred to people with underlying health issues. I don’t want to trivialise any deaths, all of them are terribly sad and unfortunate. The hard work and dedication of doctors and nurses and other healthcare professionals who are putting themselves on the front line to take care of people is also extremely moving.

It’s worth remembering though, that Influenza kills between 150,000-450,000 worldwide every year (episode 2 of a recent discovery documentary called Virus: Invisible Killers), so time will tell how many deaths will be caused by this thing once it’s over.

The question is, what liberties are people prepared to give up or lose to fight this? You seem quite happy with your choice and I think I’ve made my position pretty clear, but just dismissing people as conspiracy theorists is lazy.

The US had already initiated and entrenched themselves in secret mass surveillance, going so far as to lie to congress and keep legalities hidden. The UK is in bed with them here. We can fully expect that privacy rights will not return to their former state without battle.

Are you aware that you're on an Apple forum? A company that, repeatedly and persistently, even on a business model level, has made an issue out of protecting user privacy? Now that's a "conspiracy theory"? You realize Apple has butted heads with the FBI over encryption, right?

However I'm in Germany, where government is generally trustworthy
