It's a bit of snow, and you don't need to go to work?

Unlike most of Europe and the U.S., much of Britain seems to grind to a halt with even a light covering of snow. I'm only staying at home because I can, it's my choice, but I still have plenty of work to do here including getting some publications to press today. I've got access to my corporate emails so it's business as usual.

It's all a matter of the quality of infrastructure. If this happened in Germany, people wouldn't think twice. Whereas here, they're cancelling train services, airports etc.

Heavy snow causes transport chaos

It's snowing here in the east. I wish we got more of it, I love it when everything just stops. Unfortunately I walk to work so can always get there, not like the car drivers who seem unable to function when it snows - it never occurs to them that they could set out on foot, my work is full of people who complain about getting wet on their short walk to the carpark.

I live on a steep hill. The car won't get up it neither will any buses and it's too far to walk!

Had heavy snow between 6.30 and 7.00 here (near Bristol) - just enough to make everywhere white but the roads soon cleared after a few cars had driven over them. Now its just wet and horrible although it has just started snowing again very lightly. I think we are too far south to get a load of snow from this storm. Never mind, maybe next time?

Need to get out and take some pictures - i got my art exam paper yesterday, and could get some useful shots.

Ooh, it's started snowing again now...:)

We got snow

I live in Hemel Hempstead (remember the Oil Blast??) and we got about 8-10cm of snow.

Its still snowing quite nicely now. The trains here are a mess - so work kindly suggested I take the day off. Sadly (my heart bleeds) we don't have any e-mail or VPN access, so I really have the day off! :)

Its not too bad here in Sheffield but it is continuing to snow right now and if it doesnt stop by lunch time it could cause problems. You know like an inch of snow does in England

The main roads are just wet but theres hardly any traffic about.

I have driven all the way across the city to my workplace out in the countryside and although the country lane is risky at the moment its still not bad. So it gets me why half the city seem to be still tucked up in bed? Lazy ass bastards. Im now in my 'favourite' place. A freezing cold barn/design studio... joy!

We've got about an inch in Stourbridge.

There's hardly any traffic at all because all the schools are closed and I got to work in half the time it usually takes :)

Me too.

Phoned into work and was surprised when somebody answered! So I told them I'll try to get when in the snow stops falling.

I'm really, really, really going to try to get in today. Honest

:D

Yes! This was taken just outside my patio door a few minutes ago, a bit south of the midlands. I'm looking at it as I work. It's still snowing.

Why do schools close when it snows?
Because the parents always drive their kids rather than walking with them, and the schools don't want traffic accidents outside the gates.

Yeah, totally pathetic isn't it. I never realised giving birth or fertilising an egg stops your legs from working, but apparently it does

On a lighter note, I walked into the office looking like a Gap advert. Sometimes being only a mile or so away has major advantages :)
