If it has Wi-Fi, will it have AirPlay 2 support? I assume not, but it would be great if any of the tech sites regurgitating a UE press release would actually try to find out :)

OK I just saw their FAQ, and they explicitly don't support AirPlay (never mind AirPlay 2). Too bad. NEXXXXT!

I PRAY that everyone referring to the "+" for volume control as an affront to Christianity is just trolling. If plus signs offend you, you are going to have a long miserable existence. Go back to complaining about cupcake calories in google maps.
It's not the "+" alone, but rather the fact that it is so closely placed with the "-" - a "-" that is on edge compared to it's intended orientation. The close pairing make it look very much like a cross with just a smidge wiped out in the center of the vertical.

Cross or not. Religious or not. It’s their branding. And it is working. Look at where this thread has gone!

Back to the subject, I’m personally interested. I was think about picking up a pair of wonderboom speakers to set them up in stereo mode by linking them. I may just hold out for one of these. I do have a Beats Pill Plus, but the sound on these seems to be more worth it. Alexa on board is a bonus.

These are pretty awesome.

I need something to replace my ancient Beats Pill when it goes. The waterproofing is an excellent feature, too.

If I was dining at Satan's table or a lukewarm Christian, I'd fear these speakers, too. The fear generated over the innocuous symbols means the vampires and demons won't get me; just gotta play Gregorian chants and the effect is complete.

I have the Meagboom and it has been a great speaker. The sound is clear and it gets so loud I can barely turn it above 50% before I start worrying about noise complaints from my neighbors. The battery lasts forever as well.

The charging dock on the new model is a nice addition because opening the small rubber charging port and using a micro-USB cable is a slight annoyance.

I'd be willing to try one of these out - but only if they fixed the problem with the tapping controls on the top of the unit. With mine you have to keep trying and trying and tapping and tapping and….finally you get out of the shower, dry your hands, grab the iPhone and change to the next song that way.

Yes, I know how to do it, I know you have to lift it up before tapping. But again - what's that about? It's a great product, has very good sound and is waterproof - all of which means I'm not unhappy I got it. But that "lift and tap" thing is just poor engineering.

The lack of Airplay is disappointing. I’d love to be able to control my music, podcasts and audiobooks on my phone and play them through Wi-Fi to my UE.

Plex has Alexa support, but only voice-controlled it seems. Is that a limitation of Plex or Alexa?

Well, based on the discussion, seems like it's working as far as having their brand discussed, not really sure that translates to sales (and to the degree that it does, if this type of discussion translates to potentially less sales than more).

Maybe it’s an American thing. I know of no one in the UK (where I am) that cares.

is everyone trolling or are they serious? they're talking about the plus sign on a speaker to turn up the volume as a cross/religious symbol?

That is called good design. I have the two BOOM 2's. My 4 and 2 year old children can easily identify how to turn the volume up or down without being instructed. It is simple and intuitive.

(I just looked down. Guess what symbols are used to increase or decrease the pressure of the back on my Herman Miller Aeron chair? You guessed it! + and -. You guys sound like this woman:

It's not about it being + and - as much as it is about how those are designed and placed and how it all appears on the device (in particular going by the promotional materials).

Again. Just good design. The + indicates an increase in volume. The fact that it is on top clearly indicates the volume going up. You guys are seeing what you want to see. This device has been in my home for 3 years and I have literally never seen it as a cross.

Sure, different people can see (or not see) different things.

Eww no thanks. Looks a bit too religious-y to me.

I'm no hardware engineer, just a software one with various awards under their belt, but yeah surely it wouldn't be too difficult to seperate them shapes out a bit?

Hello!
I'm not sure if you're deliberately trying to be obtuse or not so just to be sure - you're fully aware nobody is disliking a plus sign by itself? That it's the juxtaposition, in connection with the narrow typeface, alluding to the popular Christian logo that people don't like? Here's a little exercise for you;

Imagine if a product shipped with the logo of a religious group you didn't like, maybe it's Islam? If it's not you certainly know how strange people get around that, almost like it's a phobia? If you further don't understand I'd say do a Youtube search for "Christian complaining about Islam", you'll certainly get some drunk redneck mangling a bunch of words into their computer. Anywho we're losing the exercise here aren't we! Let's get back; imagine if a speaker shipped with the iconography of Islam into their world. They wouldn't be too happy would they? At the very furthest here you're going to get drunk rednecks yada yada, but then you'll have more moderate people saying "I won't buy that".
Now, you might see their understanding there and think "well that's just their rights as a consumer in the United States" and move on. Though, what I'm finding here are users that are complaining about people not wanting a Christian speaker - involving some weird comments about "safespaces" or odd things like that.

Now - my original post here was in jest to wind up the strangely defensive Christians. Personally I have no need for anything like this so I won't buy it but not for iconographic reasons. Though if some people calmly state they're not then that's fine too. It's just funny to see that the ones getting up in arms over this are the religious ones annoyed at the purchasing decisions of others.

Anywho it's all pretty funny from over here. From seeing jestful "I don't want christian speakers!" spawning reactions from wild people blabbering over "safespaces" (a serious concept, which shows how angered the christians are). I'll have to come back to this thread later to see if tones have changed.

You'd have to be willfully ignorant to say that the button arrangement doesn't clearly resemble a crucifix. Either that, or your head is tilted 90°. And yet, these same people are likely the ones who got upset over red Starbucks cups...

i was wrong, i guess people are closed minded as i thought.

If these only supported Google Assistant, guess I will look at JBL new Google Assistant Bluetooth/wifi speakers.

I’d much prefer JBLs Portable speakers especially the Boombox with 24hr battery charge IP68 rating backed by warranty with 2USB ports for charging two phones line In and Out for aux speaker use. These with with Bluetooth unsure about WiFi.

For all AI assisted speakers I’ll skip this generation. Amazon is too US market focused for my liking and I don’t want a paid membership like Prime/Apple Music just to enjoy music.

Call me old school but I’d prefer owning my music, streaming completely free to lookout for new music or pay for a bundle like a mixtape of sorts (SoundCloud suits me fine for now/free).

Unless a system can fully act (using Cloud for video/audio backups) as my home security then I don’t want microphones in my place data mining and setting iPhone an algorithm digital representation of me. Yeah Siri is on my phone but I don’t enable Hey Siri (cause of the simple limitation of staying only that)! I’m a music lover first and foremost before high new tech. Wi-Fi is very welcome by UE here.

I’ll buy another Play:1 and I’ll deal just fine. Next year if no brand new iPhone or drop in X’s exhorbitant price and major Siri modernization I just may have to wonder what’s going on at Apple.

The people who are upset with it are just saying that there is no reason it couldn't be a horizontal minus sign, so it'd be look like this when placed upright :

Well, I got mine today and I have to say that the MegaBlast is a nice piece of kit. It will contribute nicely to my workflow and presentations that I am involved with!
