if he sets the boot disk in System Settings, he can boot with whatever he wants.
his mac is restarting cause it is kernel panicing when OSX can't recognize the card.
if you set boot disk before you boot you don't need the grey bootloader screen and thus totally avoid OSX
you're not having the card in slot 1 are you?
you should try slot 1 with 7300 and 4890 in slot 2
slot 1 is default graphic card slot, not good idea to boot with a broken card in that slot
...you are connecting your display to the 7300 right?
try without any power connected to 4890
4890 is too, if you follow the instructions 😉
Heh..
Well, the instructions are ok I guess,if you are seasoned pro. But for us amateurs, they leave a bit to desire for.
Ahh Cindori!
Always good to have a user friendly geek!
really.. I still consider myself an amateur 😉

ah well... I still wanted to make this a little bit more user friendly
macinposh showed that the instructions where bad enough for a newcomer.
terminal commands?? rom files?? not too easy if it's your first time
and I cant have ppl brick their cards on my instructions...
so I decided to make this.

It's written in AppleScript. It's really basic, but until about 4 hours ago, I had never written a line of AppleScript before. But all it took was some intense googling and help from StefanK @ Macscripter.net.
Off to update the main post.
I'm getting the message:
/ATIROMFlasher.kext failed to load - (libkern/kext)
not found; check the system/kernel logs for errors or
try kextutil(8).
Hope you can help me
Thanx
Hey Cindori: I tried your apple script and now all of a sudden I've got a brand new Apple ati radeon 4870 in my mac pro?!!! How the hell did you do it???
Amazing!!
Any chance you can make on of these "idiot-proof" things with the OC ROM? 🙂
Are you running it when logged in as a administrator?
also, did you copy the files to the drive your OS is on?
Uhm not following, did you mean 4890? 😛
