Ultra or 8?

I have a 4 and planning to upgrade. I’m hesitant on the 8 as it looks too similar to my 4 while the Ultra is great but I wished they had a black ultra instead of just the silver color.

Or should I hold out until 9? I’m hoping the 9 will look diff across the entire line up and they offer a black or dark grey ultra
 
All I can say is that I upgrade from a 4 to an Ultra. It's an awesome watch. But if you really don't want the titanium color, you have three choices – buy an 8 now, wait for the 9, or wait for the new Ultra (hoping for colors). So the odds are 2-1 in favor of waiting. 😉

I have the S4 and was planning on upgrading to the S8. Had no want or need for the Ultra as I have small wrists and the Ultra seemed too big.

2 weeks ago I went to the Apple store to upgrade to the S8 and walked out with the Ultra. I love it and glad I got it. I kept my S4 and switched my cellular plan to the Ultra. I will use the S4 when the situation presents it's self. I haven't missed the smaller 4 and have been using the Ultra the whole time.

The rumors suggest there will be no big changes to the design this year for Series 9 (or for the Ultra for that matter).

I think the Ultra and the regular series watches look different enough that you can justify having both - especially if you want a dark watch.

I don‘t think so.

(All previous designs lasted 3 years and the current design is only in its second year.)

I do think so!

(Because it would be such an easy and obvious way to make folks upgrade that prefer a darker Watch body. Also, there was a black Titanium Edition before so no R&D required.)

I tend to keep my watch for a while and I just think the 8 will be too boring for me. The ultra is great and isn’t too big as I wear gshocks as well. I just love the design as it’s more fresh than the non-ultra design.

But man I wish it was black!!!

Just bear in mind, that this is not an iPhone, it is a watch. Apple managed to create an iconic design, what represents an "Apple Watch". It grew larger, got coloured but kept its design. It got a big sister called "Ultra", looking different.

If i were a designer, I would have a look at the market of watches. The most precious brands are immediately recognizable, because they have a unique design - small, bigger, but recognizable.

So, what would I do with my Apple watch...
 
I went from a 4 to a 6 to an Ultra.
I am by far the happiest with my Ultra.
I have always had silver watches, so the colour wasn't an issue.
The leap from a 4 to an 8 or Ultra would be a good one. If you wait, you can also expect to have the same question...get a 9, or wait for the 10?
Personally speaking, if you are in the market, buy now. If you are not, wait.
 
Finally upgraded from the S4 to the S7 SS last month and returned it for the Ultra. Love the Ultra!

It may not look as elegant as the SS, but that larger screen ( and the benefits of it ) plus the battery sealed it for me!
 
I went from a 3 to the Ultra. Was close to getting a 7 (based on not huge difference between the 7 & 8). Then decided just do it and bought the Ultra. Very happy i did.
 
I've always had stainless steel WATCHs ... S0, S2, S4 and S6. The added features of the Ultra vs a SS S8 were too numerous for essentially the same price ... went with the Ultra. :)

I was also very close to pulling the trigger on a SS S8, but for similar reasons went Ultra.

Thanks all. I think I’m leaning towards the Ultra and buy the CF pitaka case.

Now let’s hunt for a slightly used one
 
I like my ultra, though I wish they polished the Ti vs the matte

Heating the Ti would also look cool, but you’d probably have to dissect the whole watch

I went form a AW3 to SS7 which was like half off at walmart recently. My plan was to otherwise wait for the SS9 assuming it provided some real improvements.

I saw that deal. So I’m thinking is that more worthwhile or spend $100 more or so to buy a used Ultra
 
Went for the Ultra but left with the S8. The orange makes the Ultra…ugly to me. If they have just the titanium without the orange or even make the buttons black. I prefer neutral colors such as black or silver. I don’t even get cellular options because I hate the red circle in the crown.
