Comcast internet was down again last night (4/12). I would switch in a heartbeat if I had any other choice.
Yep. Started off as the same DNS problem, then later on in addition to that, I kept getting this Comcast page when I'd open Safari, saying I'd have to install additional software.

It's funny too, because my parents (who currently have Sprint DSL) are considering dropping DSL and their phone line altogether to save money, and just adding Comcast. I'd been telling them that Comcast is usually pretty problem-free, and look at all that happens in the past week.

According to a friend at work, Comcast is supposedly "upgrading their infrastructure" right now. Upgrading what, I don't know.

I am looking to relocate in the DC area, and i am trying to find places that use Cox as opposed to Comcast. Enough said.

To be honest Comcast isn't as bad as I had expected. I have Comcast here in Arlington. Only had 2 downtimes in 18 months. However, I must admit that I came from Philadelphia where Comcast high speed internet really s*cked! So my expectations were really low moving to the DC area.

Ya, other then there customer support and some problems with the tv side of it comcast high-speed internet here in the DC area is fine in-fact last night (4/12) and thursday were the only downtimes (other then in a storm and all of the cable is out that is) I have ever had with them in the good 4 years i have used them.

I would switch to something else were it available for a reasonable price. I mean, Sprint DSL is availble in my area, but that would mean I'd also have to buy a phone line (which I don't have right now...all I need is my cell phone). Besides, I'd be paying more money for less speed. I pay $40-something for Comcast, and I think I get a 3mbps download. Basic-rate DSL is 512kbps for $40, and if you want the 1.5mbps service, it's over $50 a month. I already have cable TV w/ Comcast, so it's the logical choice.

For the year I've been in my new place, this is the first time that there's been a problem...but it was a *major* problem, twice in a period of not even a week! That's pretty unacceptable, for them to be down probably a combined 20 hours or more due to a nation-wide problem during the course of one week!!!

This also made me think back to a conversation I had a couple months ago, with a Comcast rep. I was talking to them regarding getting cable service in the new building that the school I work for is putting up, and the sales rep said to me, "oh you're going with the slow stuff" when I told him we were getting a T1 through Sprint. Might be slower, but our Sprint lines have never gone down for any exorbitant amount of time in the two years I've been working here!

The quality of service is not a primary concern for internet. Comcast according to friends is decent. Cox is really trying hard since they are trying VOIP service, and that demands a certain level of service.

My problem with Comcast is their pricing in this area, and customer support. But this is a moot point, since I did find an apartment in Fairfax County with Cox service. I just got word today I have been approved. Now on to selling the house! :)

gaaah again tonight 4/13 into 4/14 the internet is being flukey. it connects, then doesn't, then does again. what a tease!

seriously, comcast was rock-solid for 1.5 yrs, so i'm more forgiving, but jeesh.

Same here. I've been using Comcast's high-speed service since mid-2000 with no problems. Then twice in a week it flakes out.

Strange.

This is the 3rd time since Sun. night for me. This is really killing me with my online classes.

Mine was being flakey last night too.

One thing I read on dslreports.com (on a forum page with a LOT of people complaining about this)...people are manually setting their DNS servers in their cable routers to be something *other* than Comcast's. I did this and my problems ceased last night.

My Linksys router can either get the DNS servers automatically, or you can enter up to three. I entered one of Comcast's as #3, and I entered 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3 and #1 and #2. Seems to work much better...

Same here as well - Fort Myers, FL. Apparently Comcast updated some equipment and are having problems...

Last Thursday's was supposedly nationwide (that's what the recording on Comcast's tech support said).

As for Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, I don't know if it was their whole system that was down, but it was definitely a big part of it.

I am on the cape and we have been haiving the same issues. First I thought it was comcast flicking the switch early on us, we are moving on Saturday, but then I realized that it was a much larger issue. This was the first.. maybe second time within 3 years of haivng comcast. The place we are moving to has adelphia... any word on them?
