I know you got it going last night, from your post. I had the same problem w/3.01 last night as well. Just to clarify for anybody else with the problem.

In iTunes, shift/restore and choose the 3.01.ipsw file (for the 3.01 updates)
When running redsn0w, choose the 3.0.ipsw file.

I'm just learning what the iphone can really do :)

Messed up on jailbreak :(

Hello to all in MacRumors

Today i tried jailbreaking my iphone 3g and upgrading it to 3.0.1 i think the current firmware was somewhere in 2.2 ... anyways i followed the instructions in iClarified..

When i was at the part at the restore.. i shift clicked restore and chose the ipsw which was 3.0.1 and it started to restore it but when it finished it locked my iPhone 3g and i cannot use redsn0w anymore because itunes keeps asking me to put in a valid sim card..

I bought the iPhone 3g off ebay which was already activated so right now i have no idea on what to do..this is my first time jailbreaking any advice or support would greatly be appreciated..thank you very much :)

Well if you actually followed the iClarified tutorial for JB, it told you to point redsn0w to 3.0 IPSW not 3.0.1

You will need to restore your phone. Follow these instructions.....

Restore guide Follow the instructions exactly.

Be careful not to update your phone to 3.1 or you will be out of luck.

Since I do not know whether you are on Mac or PC, I suggest you update your iTunes if it is really 3.2. Current version is iTunes 9

Do not update the firmware on your iPhone to 3.1

There are 3 different entities:

Operating System for computer Mac at 10.6.1 (Intel Mac) 10.5.8 (PPC Mac)
or Windoze at Vista SP2

iTunes at version 9

iPhone firmware ---> do not update any higher than 3.0.1 (do not go to 3.1) until JB tools for 3.1 are released.

edit: You do not need iTunes to JB as stated below, only Redsn0w, but running real old software could cause problems with syncing your stuff to and from iPhone.

Just close iTunes, run Redsn0w, and, when asked to point to your current ipsw, don't. Instead point to the ipsw for 3.0. Redsn0w will unlock 3.0.1, but you have to trick it into doing so by pointing to the older version.

So i've updated everything and i try to following iClarified's tutorial EXACTLY this time i reach the end of the tutorial and my iPhone's screen is black :(
Any reasons why?

Did you restore phone first and set up as new phone ?

After that, JB should work

Once again thank you for the advice and support.

So this is what i did..

I restored the iPhone just like you said when its finished my iPhone reboots and the front screen says it needs a valid sim card and stuff meaning i cant even make a new phone on iPhone :(

edit: this is what i got

You just need to jailbreak and hacktivate using redsn0w. You can't activate using iTunes because you don't have an AT&T SIM. Close iTunes and ignore it. Just follow the procedure for redsn0w, then install untrasn0w from Cydia to unlock your phone so that you can use it with your SIM.

Problem is after following the procedures of redsnow it says done but my iphone screen just stays black
anything i might've done wrong there?

Since we cannot know or observe what you have/are doing, can't answer this.

After restore, thelatinst is correct, close iTunes, run redsn0w, let it complete and try a reboot of phone.

unable to recognize specified ipsw

Hi. I am starting this new thread because I need help PDQ as I need my phone working in a couple of hours....

I got advice from another thread about jb and unlock - I have a 2g.

I followed the instructions, backed up, restored holding option and selected iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw, it successfully restored.

I now have run redsn0w and it gives me the 'unable to recognize' message?

After restoring, iTunes quit as it needed the sim code. I have entered the sim code and tried again, but get the same message...
s
Any ideas anyone..... Thanks
