Plenty of reasons to leave the charger at home while traveling especially internationally? I don't think so. They'll just have to remember to keep it in their carry on rather than checked luggage.

Only reason I said that is because I do it all the time, just didn't care to elaborate but lol. A non stop from BWI to LON is less then 8 hours. If I have a charger on either end why would I bring one? I don't bring a charger to work and I work a longer day every day then that flight is.

Speaking of work I used to fly to work (domestic) at least twice a week. But a lot of people do it and there is no reason to bring a charger any more then there is for someone to bring one on a bus on there way to work.

And I still fly from BWI to MYR once a month to meet my father for lunch (same day round trip). Only thing I carry are keys phone and wallet.

This is the weirdest law/policy ever. I'm sure it has some point, but it just seems so odd that they care about charged devices.

They don't care about charged/uncharged devices per se but that they work and aren't filled with explosives. The idea is if they're operative they're in theory not filled with explosives. Their making you power on your laptop has been going on for many years now and they're just extending this policy to phones.

I've been on probably over a hundred flights and I've not ONCE been asked to turn on my laptop or phone to anyone.

I'm guessing this is selective enforcement; IE make sure your stuff is charged just in case they choose you. I've either been very lucky or I've flown through airports where they don't care.

I've seen it happen but you have to be tagged, i.e., they don't screen all laptops that way.

Wouldn't this just be a measure where they take that person and device to a level 2 check and inspect the device in a way to tell if its an explosive or not?

As opposed to say making someone lose their phone or missing their flight...

I have been asked to turn on my tablet a few times at airports. Maybe you just don't fit the racial profile of someone who would possibly be hiding explosives in electronics.
