I saw somebody trophy whoring lasting night but I won't name names

So I popped back in last night, first time in a couple of weeks, and it downloaded the trophy patch. But then when the game started, it didn't see my previous saved games anymore! I know I need to start a new save to get the trophies, but I'd still like to be able to access my old saves! I checked my game save data in the XMB, and everything is still there. It's just that the game doesn't see them now?

What gives?
