You guys act like upgrading every year somehow costs a lot of money. I've upgraded every year without ever actually paying out of my pocket for the actual phone. Except for the original iPhone, of course. But after that every year I sold my previous iPhone on craigslist and always got enough money to cover for the complete unsubsidized or slightly less subsidized price. It's not that difficult.

I bought my iPhone 4 on launch day extending my contract for two years. I'm upgrade eligible on 6/24/11 which will almost certainly mean I can get an iPhone 5 on day one. I'll sell my iPhone 4 on eBay for $600 and buy the new one for $300. Cost of brand new phone: negative $300.

I love your snarky tone and all, but you don't know what you're talking about.

Virtually everyone who bought on launch day is going to be able to upgrade on the iPhone 5 launch day.

I will sell my phone unlocked for $500+ on Craigslist and buy myself and my wife a new iPhone 5.

Still feeling snarky?

It would take something revolutionary in the iPhone 5 for me to sell my iPhone 4 this summer. I really love this phone and have no plans to upgrade this year. This thing is simply gorgeous, feels great, and does everything I need it to do. Dual core on a phone means nothing to me.

I learned my lesson before the iPhone 4 launch when I sold my 3G (not 3GS) for $350 unlocked, which more than covered my new iPhone 4.

Now there is no reason for me to ever NOT upgrade every year. I actually make money to buy a new phone every year and get all the speed bumps and new features. How is this a decision?

The only reason would be the extended contract, but think about this: If you sold your iPhone 4 for $500, bought the iPhone 5 for $300 and extended your contract, you could put the $200 in a drawer. If you need to end your contract after 1 year (when it would have run out with the iPhone 4 anyway) you pull out your $200 and pay the fee to cancel. Then go sell your iPhone 5 for $500 again.

It's not rocket science.

Same with me. I purchased my iPhone 4 with the intention of it lasting for 2 years.

I am in the same boat. I was one of the first to pre-order on the 3rd and then receive it on the 7th of February. I don't have any intentions to get the next Iphone until my contract is up in Oct. of 2012. I love this phone and it would take something totally outside the box to get me to switch early.

I'm an iPhone 4 owner 9 months into ontract. In 3 months, I'll be an iPhone 5 owner 12 months into contract.

Please explain this. I'm also an iphone 4 owner 9 months into my contract but if I get an iphone 5 in 3 months, won't I be an iphone 5 owner with a 2-yr contract?

I'm presuming that there are a few people who are in 2yr contracts and cannot upgrade to the iPhone 5, but i could be wrong.
