Correct. Sprint phones are locked and they basically never unlock them.

Okay. Thank you. Sorry for all the questions, but do you know what Iphone 5c carrier would be compatible with Boost Mobile or Straight talk?

Boost mobile will need a Sprint iPhone 5C

Straight Talk resells all 4 carriers (AT&T / T-Mobile / Sprint / Verizon)

So for Straight Talk you can get a phone from any of the big 4 and activate it, for CDMA you will need the CDMA activation code from straight talk.

Example you have a sprint iPhone 5C, you can activate it on Straight Talk's Sprint service and only that. If you want to later move to other network you will need new iPhone as Sprint iPhone's not possible to unlock.

Get a iPhone 5C from Verizon and you can activate it on Straight Talk's Verizon service, because its Factory Unlocked, you can later move it to any other GSM carrier or Verizon it self.

Someone should make this grid w/ the newest iPhone models

I will make it. I did make a picture similar but gave up halfway through lol. Lots of work and research, the OP put in ton of work into that post, not sure i can match it.

I copied and pasted one part with updated info into my this thread:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1781868/

Its half of what OP from this thread put in, but its been a start.

I just bought a 5C that a friend had with Verizon. Can I pop my AT&T sim into it and everything work flawlessly?

That's just not true AT ALL. In fact I'm typing this message on a Verizon iPhone 5 with a TMobile SIM card in it, running on TMobile's HSPA network.

The Verizon iPhone 5, 5c and 5s are unlocked.

The OP did a great job.

Hey skimcpip, did you have to do anything special to the phone to get it to work with t-mobile? change any settings or anything???

Just put in a T-Mobile SIM into it and that's it, just like using a T-Mobile iPhone or any unlocked iPhone basically.

Thank you Satnam1989 for all this info...

Do you have glass to repair iphone 5c?
I got my friends old verizon iphone 5c of which she cracked the glass and plan to use it with t-mobile...

You can find 3rd party replacement LCD's, I've bought one from this listing in the past few months for one of my 5C. http://www.ebay.com/itm/36107300513...49&var=630415947688&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

Its easy to replace the LCD on iPhone 5C/5/5S -- open two screws at bottom and then there are 3-4 screws at the connector and 3 connection cables that you just got to snap in and done.

I advise buying full assembly only because then you are not risking breaking anything while moving those small pieces -- keep your original incase you may need to replace the camera or home button in the future.

The question is, will Sprint unlock them>

Sprint rep @ a local Sprint store and a rep on their web chat and a rep on their support email told me that they will unlock for current customers in good standing, w/ accounts older than 90 days. FWIW.

The question is, will Sprint unlock them?

The FCC should make it a law that outlaws phone locking in the name of fairness and competition, just like in Australia.

Things have changed since this thread was started but one thing still remains:

Sprint will only unlock the device if its being requested for unlock by the original owner...they are not catering to 2nd hand owners at all what so ever.

So despite this thread being over a year old, some things still remain, that = Sprint will not unlock their iPhones for non-customers / 2nd hand owners.

On the bright side there is hope for first iPhone owners to Unlock and then sell their iPhones or to move to another network.

But T-mobile claims,

"Yes, the Sprint iPhone 5 is compatible with T-Mobile’s nationwide 4G LTE network once you have unlocked your phone."

http://www.t-mobile.com/bring-your-own-phone.html
Do the Sprint iPhone 5's even support the T-Mobile LTE bands in the first place? I know you can get up to "4G" HSPA. Even with the iPhone 5c/5s, supported LTE bands are not the same for the ATT/TMo/VZW and Sprint models. For universal LTE support, you'd have to go with Sprint iPhone 6/6 Plus.

In any case, starting February 2015, Sprint will now unlock smartphones for customers in good standing. I'm actually just surprised that they'll allow unlock of older iPhones considering they're not required by the CTIA agreement to unlock phones released prior to February 2015.

When I made that post, it was correct. Sometime in the past couple months sprint changed their unlocking policy and will now unlock certain iPhones.
I know this post is a couple of months old, but wanted to comment that this is no longer the situation if it ever was.

I have bought 4 used iphones over the past couple of months and have had all unlocked with no problems, as long as they are not attached to a payment plan they will unlock them.

Seems like that's what that post was saying, that as of a little while ago it's now possible.

That's too vague. Did you see the very first post of this thread? It clearly shows that the unlocking is an issue only for specific iPhone models on specific carriers. So which iPhone model on which carrier did you buy & successfully unlock?

Thanks.

I mean to quote all things I. He said sprint only caters to people that bought the iPhone outright from sprint that they will unlock. My experiences is that now they are unlocking even if you didn't buy it directly from them. As long as it is not under contract.

See my post above. I quoted the wrong person earlier. I was talking about sprint
