Fair comment I suppose but I just feel that Apple has made much greater leaps and has had better innovation in the previous year. Honestly not trying to troll or anything but really what stood out besides force touch? They did not wow me in anyway. They didn't show me anything I haven't seen before. I understand this seems like another "I'm underwhelmed / disappointed" thread but I'm honestly asking did anything blow you away or wow you in such a way that you would move onto any of the new products? For me the answer is no
Sure, 6s; iPad pro and Apple TV. I'm not disappointed or underwhelmed as this was a very good upgrade cycle.

Same old song and dance every year from some of you.

"I'm under-impressed"
"No real advancements were made"
"I'm so disappointed"

The rhetoric goes on and on.

The fact of the matter is Apple makes great incremental updates and if you look at how the capabilities of all smartphones have evolved over the last 5 years, it's quite shocking to see how far everyone has come. Yes, that includes iPhones and the competitors too.

You have nothing to whine about.

Typical...£500 million in R&D, 2000 staff working long hours, the brightest minds in the industry and you wake up scratch your arse and go Meh. Please tell us what else you want from a phone.

Underwhelming because you weren't "sold" on it.

If you think about the force touch, and compare it to any of the other advancements in past iPhones, it is a pretty exciting thing and no more or less progressive. To me, the switching between apps using force touch on the side of the screen is pretty awesome (a la four finger swipe on ipad). Also, this 3d touch speeds up navigation within iOS. Was that highlighted?

The only thing missing is you don't have a person anymore that tells you WHY these things are important. It's now "here's some great things. aren't they cool."

It used to be "here's some cool things, and here's why they matter."

THAT's why I think these product launches are underwhelming.

But those were exciting. An "assistant" that you could talk to and have the phone work on its own and touch I'd was special too because not only was it a new fun coll security feature but (I thought) it would lead to greater things like touch to pay which is also convenient and cool
I guess it's just down to personal taste. I found Siri a bit of a boring new feature and I hardly ever use it to this day, Touch ID is a neat feature but before Apple Pay came along I wouldn't really have missed it.
3D Touch is much more exciting than both of these combined as it actually changed the way we can use the phone, even the little things we have seen like being able to jump straight to place you want in an app from the tile screen I find very exciting.
I'm also really excited about the Live Photos, this was actually the 'surprise' of the keynote for me as everything else had already leaked before hand.

Seriously, it's a phone, and an (S) update by the most conservative phone manufacturer around.

I, personally, was shocked it has 4K video.

If it's any comfort, threads like "most underwhelming upgrade?" have been here from the beginning... maybe because a mobile phone update can't be overwhelming? I don't know....

Why do people feel they need to think a company can make huge improvements in one year? when you have a great product you can't make it even more amazing..there comes a time in tech where how much better can it get?

3D touch, live photos, better chip, better camera and likely more ram is a very good upgrade for the S cycle.
I agree. I'm quite pleased with the update. I can't wait to watch the keynote and see all the new features in detail. I was very skeptical about the 3D touch but it actually looks quite neat. The Harry Potter esque photo feature looks pretty cool too and of course the improved camera. I have a 6 + but I'm happy to upgrade this year. I'm actually happy with all of Apple's offerings at this event. I'll probably skip the mini 4 and keep my mini 3 but I'm planing on getting the 6 plus followed by the Apple TV and then the iOS pro.

You getting the pro? Think you will find a need with having a Macbook?

I'm getting the 6S+, apple tv and watch but skipping the pro

Was anyone else completed underwhelmed by what apple put on the table yesterday? I am an apple fan boy by all standards but I was just extremely disappointed. Not one thing had been new in the sense of never done before. I mean it wasn't don't before by Apple but in general some other competitor had done everything they presented yesterday. Iphone with force (3d) touch. It's been done. 12 mega pixels has been done. Apple TV with voice search and apps- done. Bigger tablet with a stylus (pencil) done. Absolutely nothing new at all. Feel free to call me out. Or correct me.

No one calls out Samsung for putting out a lot of half baked half working features, for an S revision there is a lot of improvements here, but its still an Iphone 6

There's room for everybody's opinion, but I think Touch ID is one of the best killer features on iPhones.

One way it could have overwhelmed was if it had the crazy specs of a high end Android smartphone. A quadcore CPU with 4GB of RAM, a 16mp 1.9 f-something camera and a display with 2x-4x the current resolution. That would have overwhelmed for sure.

Let's count the changes:
  1. All new input technology
  2. Both cameras upgraded significantly
  3. Aluminum body upgraded to better material
  4. Display glass upgraded to better material
  5. 4k video capability, and can edit on-board without breaking a sweat
  6. Fingerprint sensor improved
  7. RAM likely doubled
  8. CPU and GPU performance doubled
  9. All wireless radio speeds doubled
  10. Massively improved vibrator motor, now with haptics, and the only one of its kind
  11. Always on voice recognition
Nope, nothing to see here...

Sometimes being the first to do something is great and considered innovation.

But sometimes doing something better that's already been done in some capacity is better.

Would you rather have a Surface or an iPro?

Would you rather have an android with a 12 MP camera or an iPhone?

From 1991 to the present I have thousands upon thousands invested in: Apple
Apple computers
Mac Pros
Laptops
iPods
iPads
iPhones
Countless thousands on Apple peripherals
Backup/storage/network/cases cables etc.

Add in many thousands more... in stock buys during that same TWENTY FOUR YEARS and
it's fair to say I'm a serious Apple enthusiast.

In fairness to Apple, yes they make excellent products.

Yet over the last few years I'm seeing a fair amount of rather questionable decisions and practices on their part. If I look around at all my friends and colleagues that have Apple products, whether it's just an iPhone or many Apple products, the common thread amongst the seasoned Apple user/enthusiast is that quality of software releases is on the decline as is some spotty quality issues with hardware. I say some because it's not a lot at this point. But at work where we order Apple Laptops and iPhones in quantities we see quality related issues that didn't exist five years ago.

Sadly Apple is, in many cases, following or playing catch up. Oh sure, Apple and it's Army of disciples will argue that Apples the trend setter. No one can deny that Apples mastered the art of extracting maximum profit and total revenue from our pockets, but it would be nice if they'd do their best work instead of "good enough."

Those of us that have been around and focused on the company have a very different perspective , even if we disagree, than the person who's new to Apple does.

Your post above makes very good points.

I Am Underwhelmed Indeed !

5,7 & 9 are all catchup

Live Photos...Will be boring after the first few days or be used by kids. Other than that, I like the new camera, speed, and touch ID, but waiting for conformation on the memory count

Some of us, like me, don't have that amount of emotional investment in the company. I like where the company is headed with the new ceo and I like their most recent offerings.
