Gotta love it.

You're a college student and your appear to be stressed out over a scratch on your 4th exchanged phone?

This is a sad reflection on the mentality of this country's youth.

Based on your keen awareness of your 3 previous phones' conditions, I would venture a guess that you received your 4th phone in perfect condition and you may have inadvertently created the scratch. If that is the case, learn to live with life's tiny disappointments, if it's even that. More importantly, learn to be responsible for your own actions.

Prior to retirement, I employed many young people, whom had your state of mind. They were mostly preoccupied and rarely accepted mishaps as their own doing. The caliber of educated youth is not what is was.

I trust you find a quick resolve to your obvious dilemma and can move on and focus on your studies. Good luck to you.

Hey everyone,

Today I found out that I have a pretty big scratch on my screen. It was hard to find it because it only shows when the light hits it in the right position. Anyways I'm really sad to find out I have a scratch on the screen. This is my 4th iPhone 5 I have gone through. I don't know how I got this scratch in the first place. I'm really careful when it comes to stuff like this. My iPhone 4 never had a single scratch on the screen. I'm waiting for power support screen protectors but I guess that's too late now.

Anyways, I'm planning on contacting Apple once again for my iPhone 5 issues. The first iPhone I got had a dead pixel and anothe screen defect. The second one had a dent in the upper right corner. The third one had scratches all over near the slim tray. Got this one that looked great but they forgot to insert my SIM card into it so I had to go back and go through all that trouble. Not sure what to do now, I just want an iPhone with no problems at all. It's a really incovience having to through all of this since I mainly use my iPhone for college. You guys have any tips and what I could do? I know this is a long post and appreciate your attention. Thank you very much

Not to be a dick but you scratched it somehow, whether it was a piece of sand in your bag or something on ur hands it managed to get on the screen. It sounds like your blaming Apple for this which it isnt there fault

I believe you have to let them check the phone out. At least that was what I was told by some Apple CSR. Either way, buying "insurance" after you screw something up is actually called fraud but to each their own. Something I've learned from these forums is that the moral compass of each person varies and personal responsibility is just a thing of the past.

Call Applecare and buy over the phone. No inspection required.

What is with all these people who think apple should replace their phones cause they damaged them?

It is not apples problem you scratched your phone.

A glass display should not scratch.

If you do live closer than 50 miles, just change your address on your iTunes/Apple account. They will ask you to verify your address though so have it handy for when you call in.

When I got my phone replaced at the apple store the genius employee forgot to remove the SIM card and insert it into the new phone.

And this inadvertent mistake is your justification to make an exchange for a scratched phone, which you most likely created.

I'm very curious. Have you mentioned this to your parents? If so, what are their thoughts in this matter?

My 3 children have all graduated, out of the family home, and doing well. If one of them had presented to me, your current state of flux, while in school . . . I would have taken their phone away. Perhaps, it's my Asian way of thinking, perhaps not, I trust.

Ummm the Apple rep actually SUGGESTED this is what I do for dings dents and scratches within 30 days.

If Apple is OK with it, then it's absolutely legal, moral, and personally responsible.

Applecare+ doesn't cover scratches, so assuming that there is nothing else wrong with the phone when he takes it into the Apple Store he should be able to get Applecare+.

Don't judge the country youth mentality on one individual. That's very troll-like. I'm 20 and I'm not like that. I'm glad you are retiring. What youth would like to work under your leadership woth

I noticed a few small hairline scratches on my screen after a few days, but they are only visible under direct artificial light with the screen off, so they may just be scratches in the coating... it is annoying but I hate screen protectors even more, they always get dust underneath them, start peeling, get messed up during application or don't feel good to the touch. I would rather live with a few small scratches that aren't visible during use than dust trapped under the protector.

Skinny white guy here - I'd do the same.

Same here. Almost. I don't have any scratches on the screen (yet), but I won't apply any screen protector to it. I just hate them. They're simply not the same as the original naked glass which is a pleasure to touch.

My iPhones usually have a lifetime of 1 year and so far I haven't had any scratches. But even if one did manage to get a scratch, I'd live with it.

What I do is apply a bumper that covers only the metal frame and lifts the iPhone a bit from the table so that you can put it down anywhere, without either the screen or the back touching the surface. This greatly reduces the possibility of scratching anything.

Reading comprehension is a must.

I simply noted the OP's comments is a bad reflection towards people liken to yourself, yes/no?

The new glass is supposed to be more scratch resistant but it's not scratch proof. Like another member pointed out I don't believe AppleCare covers scratches or dents, that's cosmetic and does not affect the phone from operating properly. Since the scratch is so hard to find my guess is as soon as you apply the screen protector you won't even be able to find it, especially if it requires a spray on liquid. I would check that out first before going through the hassle of dealing with another exchange. Also, they do note exchanges on your account if you have a few (which you already do) they may tell you they can’t help you or if they do then they will probably make it clear that this will be the last exchange (other members have been told this after 2 exchanges).

If this is any value to anyone, I went to the applestore near me to get a screen protector. I asked one of the geniuses where are the protectors. He stopped me and explained that the iphone 5 does not need a screen protector and grabbed his phone and keys and began to scratch his screen. I was impressed. I didn't see anything but then again I didn't really look closely. So with that said I didn't buy a protector. Well guess what....today I found a scratch. Its really faint and you have to angle it right to see it but its a scratch. I bet if I go to the apple store and tell them that one of your geniuses did not recommend a protector and that I want a new phone...they will say yeah right!?!

The exact same thing happened to me man. I have never scatched my iphone before but one day I looked down at my 5 and there were scratches on the screen. I was in shock..

You can get a replacement. Just dont go in there telling them anything about the screen. Say your having wifi issues and youve tried a restore and that didnt work. They wont be able to duplicate the problem in the store but chances are they will give you a new phone anyway. Not the most honest thing to to but I dont care. It worked.
