An Unhealthy Addiction or Enjoying Your Money

That would be someone else under the guise of Income Equality or Fair Share Doing it for you

Smoke em if you got em.

People mostly live to please and serve the self. There is always going to be a tendency to justify pleasing self. Btw, I am sure it is an addiction, there is no real need behind.

iPhone X costs more than I think it’s worth, so I certainly won’t be buying one. BUT, I’m a big believer that nobody has to justify how they spend the money they’ve earned. One can easily spend $1000 on a single meal, a sporting event, a pair of shoes, etc., so if new tech is what you enjoy, why not?

But I’m 48, I work pretty hard, I earn decent money, I don’t have children . . . where’s the harm? Is it wrong to want nice things? And both the new phone and new watch are things I’ll use every day. In those terms, each is costing me a couple of pounds a day. Less — as Tim Cook said — than some people spend on coffee.

The way I see it, it's your money and nobody in here can justify how you spend it, regardless of your lifestyle. But your Post strikes me as if you're looking for justification for others to support your purchasing decisions, so you have some type of affirmation about the amount of Money you spent . I'm not judging you, it's just my take on this. It's just the context I view your Post as. But again, it's your decisions that only matter here, because it's your finances.

I was being pretty judgemental reading your original comment, then I remembered I'm 33 with a kid and spent over $400 recently on my retro game collection.

I don’t drink, I rarely eat out, I even more rarely go on foreign holidays ... yet it does feel wasteful to replace something that’s perfectly good.

I’ve semi-persuaded myself I’m doing the world a little good. Someone who can’t afford a new jet black iPhone 7+ is about to get one at a bargain price — maybe a Christmas present for his hardworking kid.

As for charity — I don’t have kids, so there’ll be plenty for charity when I die.

If you can afford it and justify its obscene price then go for it. You don’t need to seek approval, especially if you haven’t got family.

I’m 35 with two young daughters so the X is unjustifiable for me. Both my wife and I are above average earners but our money is focused on other things and my iPhone 6S is still going strong in 2017. You’re probably the exact market Apple is targeting with the X. Money to burn and a thirst for having the latest iPhone regardless of whether you need it or not.

PS: your iPhone 7 was still an excellent phone, hope you got a good price. I’ll be buying the 8 next September.

I’ve read everyone’s thoughts and I’ve slept on it and made a decision.

I’m really excited about the Hermès AW. It’s stylish and premium and adds something I don’t have on my current AW (i.e. LTE). It feels like a treat I “deserve”.

But the iPhone X feels like an indulgence. I don’t think it’s offering enough over what I have to justify the cost. I’ve cancelled it.

I can appreciate your reasoning for whatever decisions you make for your purchases. In the tech world, there are so many tempting things that we all want.

But I will say, the Apple Watch Hermès is really nice. The leather quality of the band is superb and you get exclusive Hermes watch face. The Apple Watch is one my favorite tech gadgets from Apple, enjoy yours also.

I really like the Hermès faces, plus you get the Hermès orange sports strap, which looks great and gives some flexibility.

It’s your money to spend as you see fit.
Why not compromise on the watch and get the aluminium version?

You seriously are preferring a ridiculous Hermès 1000$+ Apple watch over an iPhone X? Haha!

Despite telling everyone I wouldn’t buy an iPhone X — to the point that I pretty much believed it myself — I’ve just ordered a 64GB silver one. (Why silver? It’ll match the new Hermes AW3 I’ve also just ordered.)

I cracked when I saw one in real life and discovered it wasn’t the catastrophic disaster some posters had me believing.

I do worry that this is part of an addiction to needing the best Apple products at all times. Less than a year ago I ordered the iPhone 7+ in jet black and thought it was the most beautiful phone I’ve ever seen. What’s changed?

Nothing wrong to enjoy what you can buy from what you have earned.

Haha exact same scenario here! I told everyone no way in hell I'd buy an iPhone X (too darn expensive) and still ordered one silver 264 GB last week!

Enjoy your new purchase. You’ll eventually come to realize that all the “the X is horrible” posters here are highly disgruntled iPhone 8/8+ purchasers who are suffering severe buyers’ remorse. Jealousy is the root of all evil they say, and its on full OLED display here on the forums.

As one of the front page articles just posted recently: iPhone 8 production to decline 50-60% QoQ in 1Q18F on lower-than-expected demand.

Basically, the 8/8+ are the iPad 3 of iPhones. They got some new hardware upgrades, but Apple’s soon to abandon it faster than any other iPhone that has come before. It likely will be the forgotten platform by next quarter.

Not going to lie, somewhat disappointed to see this anticlimactic turn of events... I actually enjoy living vicariously through you guys enjoying your new iPhone Xs. :(

I could have easily paid for an upgrade from my 6+. However, i personally found zero value in going to a 6s, 7, or 8. Finally, the X came and it’s finally worth upgrading too. That’s me though.

Life is too short. You work hard you buy things that you love and whatever makes you happy. All is good.

I’m 24 and am single with no kids, and I love tech and apple products.. I got the 8 on launch and am planning to sell it and get the X. I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels the same way. I feel like I’m a bit crazy at times but like we all said, life is too short.
