I have to ask: Why? Why two?I a couple of hours I will have a second iPhone X, it will be a different color than the first. They will keep each other company.
Ouch.
That's a bit harsh!
... yet it does feel wasteful to replace something that’s perfectly good.
I’ve semi-persuaded myself I’m doing the world a little good. Someone who can’t afford a new jet black iPhone 7+ is about to get one at a bargain price
Ouch.

OP @profmatt, enjoy your purchases.
I myself usually think about these things before I open my wallet.
I do the sums and then, if I have justified it to myself — not my husband or aunt or bank manager or strangers on a Mac forum — then I enjoy it 100%.

Enjoy your new purchase. You’ll eventually come to realize that all the “the X is horrible” posters here are highly disgruntled iPhone 8/8+ purchasers who are suffering severe buyers’ remorse. Jealousy is the root of all evil they say, and its on full OLED display here on the forums.
As one of the front page articles just posted recently: iPhone 8 production to decline 50-60% QoQ in 1Q18F on lower-than-expected demand.
Basically, the 8/8+ are the iPad 3 of iPhones. They got some new hardware upgrades, but Apple’s soon to abandon it faster than any other iPhone that has come before. It likely will be the forgotten platform by next quarter.
I’m stating the obvious. Most of you are thinking it but won’t say it.

Even though the iPhone X is overpriced, most things are in life, and most hobbies are expensive regardless of what they are. I look at it like this:
1) Life is short, we are just passing though, enjoy everything you can while you are here.
2) You could be a gambler and waste thousands of pounds with nothing to show for it aside from losing your home and your wife.
3) If you've covered off all your financial priorities each month, whatever cash is left over is yours to enjoy.
Please speak for yourself. Dont try to justify your bad behaviour by 'mind reading'. I found your post both rude and confrontational also totally unnecessary.

Actually no I wasn’t thinking that at all! What I was thinking was that it’s his decision, also it’s not bragging in the slightest the guy was asking a question.
You sound pretty lame. JK. No really. JK. Everyone has their vices. This one seems pretty innocent, and no one has any right to judge what should be a higher priority for YOUR money.I don’t drink, I rarely eat out, I even more rarely go on foreign holidays..."
Actually, not really thinking this. OP likes his fancy stuff. I was thinking he's feeling a little guilty about having a superficial vice. Haha, sorry OP! But that's not bragging. And lots of people have this "problem" with Apple's annual releases. First time I bought iPhones in consecutive years, I SWEAR! I was on 2 year cycle before this year, but hard to pass up the X.I’m stating the obvious. Most of you are thinking it but won’t say it.
It's nothing to do not having children as a lot have the money to buy new Apple toys as well support children. I get fed up with people ask if we have children due to the good life style we have.

I love philosophical discussions with judgy undertones like this (not meant at you, speaking of the topic). Kids are the best ready-made excuse. I know, I use it. I think the point people make when they go to that kids comment is that if you have kids, your money might be better invested elsewhere, like a college fund, etc. If you don't have kids nor plan to, you really have no pink elephant hanging over your head to save for in the future. But everyone should look in the mirror before speaking. According to the grim statistics in the US, the majority of people are pathetically low retirement savings. OP being from the UK has a some social safety net and says he's saving more than enough anyway. Do I or anyone else care that the $1250 iPhone you bought in 2017 could be worth $10k in your IRA in 20 years? We're all adults, we know what we need now and what we need in retirement. If you have no idea what I'm saying, stop buying iPhones every year!I agree.
Just because some have kids that they cannot afford it doesn't mean that if you have kids you will go poor![]()
Or if you dont have kids you're rich and can buy anything you want![]()
