Ya, because facebook screams conservative. lol
Ya, because facebook screams conservative. lol
Facebook content is run and dictated by advertisers, not users or even Facebook algorithms. Last time I checked, most advertisers lobby and act upon conservative values and policies (including Disney who recently took action against conservative states and values).

How do they have time for this when there are more pressing prosecutions pending.

I think you're lost. As a conservative we love big tech.. big companies.. power in the hands of people and companies rather than government.

I think you're confusing us with the other guys.
Have you watched Fox News lately? They are constantly running stories of how conservatives are getting silenced by big tech.

As private companies they have the right to decide who gets to speak and what is said. Simply because they are big does not mean they lose their right to control their platform.
I used to agree 100% and that's a completely logical point of view. However, I think that most people would consider facebook "public discussion". Would you expect Google to censor your emails just because it's their platform? Social networks are the modern day town square and I believe those areas now need to be free speech areas.

The App Store could be problematic. Apple has to get out in front of this and make its case for the way it curates and distributes apps. I am not saying they are doing anything illegal, but I can see how it could be interpreted as stifling competition based on their policies. I hope they are clear, concise and transparent.

It will be amazing if the DOJ actually follows through and enforces all of our laws against these companies. Silicon Valley's conduct is utterly reprehensible. It is a sea of amoral people who do things simply because they can, without ever stopping to consider whether they should.

about time. a lot of the major social media platforms like facebook, twitter, and youtube have become some of the largest sources of mass communication and news, and there's too much f**kery going on those platforms. someone needs to have a closer look at the content they provide, and how they treat their users.

I would think Facebook and Google are in more trouble here than Apple. YouTube, Search, and Android are three vastly different companies. Facebook is just buying anyone that gets big enough to cause concern - I’m sure google does the same. They are certainly stifling not just other companies, but also censoring free speech. Although that’s a completely different topic...
Other than the App Store being the only outlet for apps and the promotion of their apps over other apps. I think the federal government’s resources are better spent elsewhere.

Google and Facebook - of course. They have been using their technologies to influence the public sphere in new ways and need new checks. Apple and Amazon? Why?

There’s been a lot of funny business for too long with these companies.

DOJ.... run by Trump's lawyer... Barr... Could be a political move on their part to pressure the tech industry to do their bidding....
Every DOJ is run by the Presidents appointees. Thats how the govt runs. Why do people point this out? "DOJ ... run by Obamas lawyer... Holder...could be a political move to pressure....." Just save text and say - I don't trust the other team - I trust my team!

The US DOJ Anti Trust division is NOT going to take any action against established US Monopolies. We have to put up with Apple/Google/Amazon et al. because if the US government enforces anti-trust laws we'll just end up having to put up with Huawei, or some other Chinese monopoly. The Chinese Communist Party will surely do everything in it's power to replace a US monopoly with a Chinese monopoly. 5G anyone?

If you think this hasn't happened before you are wrong. Lucent was a spin off of AT&T, the monopoly forced to split up by the US government in 1984. But Lucent could never compete with Alcatel because the French government allowed Alcatel to operate as a monopoly - this enabled Alcatel to overprice within the French market to undercut prices on the international market. This put Lucent at a disadvantage in the international market for their products. In the end, Alcatel bought Lucent. Now the US does not have a 5G equipment manufacturer. The Chinese Communist Party learned from this and now Huawei is the result.

Even better: If you're a large company like Uber, you can willfully violate Apple's privacy rules - and even willfully build in methods to avoid detection, like building a geofence around the Apple campus to avoid detection during App Review.
Smaller developers have been barred from the app store for making honest mistakes. But the Uber CEO will was invited to a "sit down" with Tim Cook. Such behavior is the exact definition of a "Tech Mafia". "Timmy the Cook"

I've worked at both very small and very large companies that develop iOS apps, and also as a small independent. Apple treats smaller developers unfairly, and I have witnessed this.

Apple is ignorant to believe developers don't see this. People move around and share stories.

I was a contractor working for a MAJOR corporation on an iPhone app. The app was submitted with a restricted API. The team lead called their contact at Apple (who actually answered the phone - no leave a message crap) to let them know the app was submitted, and it had a restricted API. The app was in the store 30 minutes later. 30 MINUTES!! How did the App Review team have time to check for privacy violations in that amount of time???

And at WWDC 2013 the keynote featured an new app called "Anki Drive", which is a racing game. The iOS device controls small toy cars via bluetooth that race around a course printed on a small 'rug'. The rug has elements imbedded that the car also senses. Anki had their app in the store the day before WWDC, but the cars (hardware) weren't even available until October of 2013. The iOS app had zero features except for a bunch of advertising graphics - which were eventually replaced when the app was completed and the cars shipped. This was in clear violation of Apple's regulations that prohibit marketing only apps. Anki bragged about having 50 million in SFO VC startup cash - that buys a lot of special treatment.

The DOJ has plenty on Apple and others, but they won't prosecute.

I think Apple is safe. (Trump likes Tim Apple). Amazon? Not so much. They engage in some questionable tactics, and practices. Plus Trump hates Jeff Bezos. He owns the Washington Post news which is always targeting Trump.

People point this out because the educational system does a very poor job teaching civics.

It's like the Democrats saying "the President's hand picked Attorney General..."

Lol. Of course he's handpicked, just like Eric Holder was hand picked by Obama. He even said he was Obama's "wing man" (with no media kerfuffle when he did that, by the way).

The Democrats and media just know the general public is low information and not educated, so they get away with it.

Perhaps some of the people in this thread are just as low information?
