As I've seen it's quite stable on every device, only would avoid on 32GB iPad models 'cause of the Beta Profile storageI really want this feature. Is the beta quite stable? If so, I might jump for it.
- Allow your cursor and keyboard to move between any nearby Mac or iPad - This setting toggles Universal Control on or off. If you don't want to use Universal Control, uncheck this box. It is turned on by default when you upgrade to macOS Monterey 12.3.
- Push through the edge of a display to connect to a nearby Mac or iPad - Also enabled by default, this setting lets your Mac automatically connect to a nearby Mac or iPad by pushing the trackpad or mouse cursor to the edge of the display toward the other device.
I heard it’s much simpler than expected, basically the first time you try and leave you main monitor, top, left or right, the OS assumes that where you’re second screen is, so actual location isn’t part of the assignment.Curious to know how this works if your iPad is to the left of your monitor but your physical Mac is somewhere else entirely. Maybe under a desk on the opposing side of your iPad, or maybe even across the room. Can’t quite get it clear in my head if the geographic relationship between the two devices matters after you’ve set where your iPad is in relation to the trackpad (or mouse) in the Mac settings ?
Jamone is correct. UC was NOT enabled by default. I had to enable it in Display Preferences>Universal Control on two side-by-side Macs.Initially, I thought Universal Control was not working after reading it's enabled by default. That was not the case on my MBP. I had to enable the following:
I was going to post about this very thing--super annoying since one of the selling points is that you'll just need one keyboard and mouse/trackpad for all your Apple devices... unless you want to use upper case letters at all. Ha.I have been using it extensively since both betas came out.
- When using my M1 Mini's mouse/keyboard to type notes on my ipad pro (in the default notes app) shift does not work. I know this is a beta and there are bugs, but I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this?
You can each have your own Apple ID on the mac, as for the iPad then yep you’re buggered. So two people in the same family sharing an iPad and a Mac cannot use this feature.
That's two apple ID's
I guess, we should just stop being too poor and buy two iPads and two Macs.
You can each have your own Apple ID on the mac, as for the iPad then yep you’re buggered.
But if you’re sharing them both anyway why don’t you just set up a shared Apple ID for this purpose? You must already use one individual Apple ID with the iPad - what has changed to suddenly make that not possible for use with this feature?
Well yes. The feature only works across one Apple ID. I think it’s a security feature and intended - yet you’re making out like it’s a bug or some personal slight at you, or ‘poor people’ in general. If you want to use it, and you share devices, you will need to change the id’s so that they match. No exceptions. The Apple ID on the iPad is not mine. So, Either I have to login using the same ID on Mac or we change the ID on iPad.
no exceptions.
Ha. it was a tongue in cheek joke.Well yes. The feature only works across one Apple ID. If you want to use it, and you share devices, you will need to change the id’s so that they match. No exceptions.
Obviously, it’s perhaps a shame in your situation that you cannot have multiple users on the iPad, but that’s been gone over time and time again on these forums, and there you go.
