It's not backdoor because it's not secret! You could argue it's an extra door which isn't as secure as the front door but backdoor is reservert for secret methods.

When it comes to privacy, security and encryption the minutiae is important. It can be the difference how having great privacy or not, exceptional good security or not.
I would never form opinions or make decisions on privacy and security without knowing the details of the implementation combined with the larger picture of political and societal reality we are living in.
