My daughter has just bought a new iphone 13, from apple UK. She was transferring from her old phone, XR, to new phone using the new phone transfer option.

Part way through the new phone has come up saying that some on the iTune apps belong to a different apple id, and she must enter the password for "cherlgongeluosi@163.com" to restore them on the new phone.

The old XR phone was new from apple too, it has only ever had her apple id logged into it. All purchases would have been through the same apple id. Previously she had a 6S and there was no issue in transferring over to the XR.

Where has this rogue email id come from?

If we just "skip this step" will it only skip the apps it cant copy? meaning we can then see what app was the problem. Or is there a risk of losing something if we select skip?

Is this an issue with the new phone? old phone? or itunes store?

The iPhone XR and/or the 13 has had the Activation Lock bypassed and your serial number has been cloned.

In the XR and 13, go to Settings > Apple ID and check if you see mention of the 163.com email address. If so, that device serial has been cloned. You need to return that device to the Apple Store to do an exchange.

The new one, 13, is still at the "Hello" stage, not even got to settings yet.
The XR is over 3 years old now, so will be out of warranty.

Thinking back, the XR was replaced by apple early on, I think it had the battery issue, and the genius bar just said "here have a new one". That came out a new box too.
The phone never leaves my daughter's sight, never been lost, how can it have the activation lock bypassed and cloned?
Can that be done remotely or over the air?

I've never heard of iphone cloning to access the apple id, I thought iphones were secure.

Check if you can activate the iPhone 13 by setting up a new account.

Serial numbers can be cloned and put onto other iPhones. This results in the device being associated with another Apple ID (e.g. the 163.com email address). When this happens, the only way to solve is to bring it to the Store with your proof of purchase.

Simplest explanation: daughter signed into someone else's Apple ID to download apps that someone else had purchased.

A friend's account? A hacked account shared on the web?

Are you sure it's the iphone 13 that has the issue?
See the pic attached of the message, it reads more as some apps are tied to the 163 account.

I didn't think you could do that now. It was a problem for us as a family when they took the apps out of itunes on the pc. We would all sync to that and after it was removed, each phone demanded we log in with whatever account bought it. In the end it was easier to delete the ones from other accounts and just download again.

But it meant the app was tied to another account, not the phone hacked or cloned.

It could be either the XR or 13. Check the Settings > Apple ID on the XR.

So what. Just ignore the warning. That app associated with the different ID won’t be downloaded during setup. No loss.

We're just baffled about where it came from, and a dodgy email address on a phone that has banking apps and apple pay is a bit concerning.

That was my next thought, do the transfer and see what apps dont appear and that should narrow it down

Your daughter is a hacker. Ground for life. No, in all seriousness, thank you for sharing this unfortunate issue. First I've heard about "serial cloning". Best of luck on your experience with turning in to Apple, please keep us posted!

The transfer when through, there was another random apple id address, ending in @icloud.com and skipped that too.

No apps are missing, we went though each of the home screens and everything that was there before is there now on the new iphone 13.

We'll raise it with apple.
Can you ask them online to check things like this? The nearest genius bar is about 70 miles away,

Also, I had found a post on the apple discussions: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6559517

But the people replying there were missing the point that the problem wasn't the new phone, it was the transfer that was failing due to other user apps. Our phone came direct from apple uk, cant see it being anything but brand new.

Your daughter mustve changed Apple id mid use. like use id A to download 10 apps and id B to download another 10 apps.thus that notification is showing.

She's had the same apple id for the last 10 years on more. I can gaurantee she has not used any other apple id, she wont even let other people touch her phone.

And someone couldn't have done it without her knowledge as you need to enter your password to sign out because find my iphone is enabled.

Also no apps were missing after the transfer, so what was skipped?

now that is wierd...as far as i know,no apps are allowed to sign in into a different Apple id.

and it might also be subscriptions not just apps.

The prompt for the other account is more likely to be for music or other media than for apps.

Hi,
just received a new iPhone 13 Max pro directly from Apple. When I was transferring the data from my iPhone 11 to my new iPhone, I ran into the exactly same issue. I have 5 random emails that is it prompting me for password.

I immediately stopped my transfer and called Apple Support. They gave me the same explanation that someone used my phone to download content and to simply skip the step. I can assure you, no one has used my phone to download apps, especially with these type of email addressed.

I went ahead and transferred my data. I do not see any app transfer difference between the two phones.

I am concerned regarding the security of this device. Apple indicated to me that I can safely ignore this, however, without an explanation on how this occurred, I am hesitant about using my my new iPhone.

It’s probably a bug or error in the AppStore database. It thinks that a few apps belong to someone else.
