Brutal mess by Apple. It's insulting to say that you're saving money by not putting them in there. These devices are gonna be used for the next 3 to 5 years on some people. I don't see why they missed putting Wi-Fi seven in them.

I wonder how many end users actually have a WiFi 7-capable router? It generally takes years for routers to be upgraded.

I wonder how many end users have an internet connection capable of supporting the full bandwidth offered by WiFi 7?

When it comes to networking, there are many, many factors involved, not just the edge connection. Chances are that Apple has done this research and determined that most users would not be taking advantage of the more expensive WiFi 7 capabilities, and those that need it are often plugging in a hub that has an Ethernet connection.

Not the end of the world for things like this. 99% of users likely wouldn't notice the difference. WiFi 7 is very new.

The article is wrong about MLO as it stands today with WiFi 7 enabled Apple devices. Apple's WiFi 7 chipset on the phones supports MLO but only in MLSR/EMLSR mode. There is no bandwidth aggregation across bands, only seamless/high-speed switching between the bands. This is because there's only one radio and one antenna array.

I'm disappointed in the lack of WiFi 7 on the M4 Pros -- I was hoping to not only see it added but to see full MLMR MLO support and maybe even the return of 3x3.

I just think it's really unfortunate that Apple's lineup has such inconsistencies. Really wish they'd stick to rolling out an entire standard across the board. Also wish they'd roll out all the M series updates, rather than having some devices stuck on two-generation old hardware.

Not gonna happen with today’s apple

Why does this matter? During 40 years of using Macintosh for professional applications—including Final Cut Pro, video conferencing, video streaming—slow wifi never once originated from an Apple notebook or an Apple desktop. Someone please explain the "sting" of lacking the "latest and greatest"—as stated in the original post. Thanks. BTW, I am purchasing an M4 MacBook for its built-in Apple AI writing tools, primarily proofreading.

This is the one improvement that could actually make safari snappier lol. But similar to how apple silicon is always about a year behind on wireless/BT specs, matches with product development started long ago.

Yawn Ethernet is better anyway. Its a desktop run Ethernet youll be happier with lower latency, no radio interference , and consistent throughput
A laptop is a desktop?

Like, look, I dont think it’s a big deal they left out wifi 7, 6e is just barely fully rolling out to folks now, 7 is gonna take a long time before it’s common enough for it to be a huge deal, but your argument is just silly.

A laptop is a mobile device that most people use with wifi more often than wired, in fact I’d bet most people never plug their laptop into an ethernet cable period

People like you are the reason Apple gets away with these things year after year. For most people buying a laptop is not a one or two year endeavor, not to mention resale value.

First world problems. I mean who cares? My iPad Pro M4 has WiFi 6E and I easily get 1000 Mbps. Which is crazy fast.

Reason maybe : M4 chip released in spring 2024… A18 released in September 2024 so AFTER…

M4 max is based on m4 pro that is based on m4 that is based on m3 that is based on A17 Pro I think so it think that’s why.

Oh, the same song as with M3 Pro bandwidth cut from people defending Apple, and it's getting really old. "Apple has done his research, most people don't use 200 GB/s, then it's sensible to cut to 150 and save costs." Curiously, Apple backtracked, and M4 Pro comes with 272 GB/s, because lo and behold, AI needs it.

is it a surprise when there's a precedent that apple put in wifi 6 in 2021 when wifi 6e has been out for a while at that point?

Honestly, some comments I saw of people mentioning this, it’s tiring. I mean macrumors seems to have been milking article after article these three days.

Just for the record, it’s also “missing” oled screen, improved sd card speeds (I assume), no new design, no Face ID, no higher ram config than m3 max, no cellular, also most importantly no new wallpaper on the box!

Jokes aside, I’m quite happy to see the webcam improved with centre stage, stops me dangling my iPhone on the screen. Playing with llm the super increased bandwidth also great. And brighter screen is another daily win. Not sure what tb5 will do for me.

Apple simply don’t have a competent Wifi7 chip made in house to add to these. 160Mhz channel width on 6Ghz for Wifi7 is just shamefully bad. The Wifi performance of our 16 Pro and 15 Pros is also generally poor compared to OnePlus 12. For Mac, Apple still cannot match Intel BE200 or Qualcomm’s QCNCM865 chips which are the best in business currently.
Interesting. Do you have a link where I can read more about these specifics? didn’t know they don’t use Qualcomm for WiFi I thought they were all bundled together with the 5g modem
