Maybe people who use too much data are being shunted to the 4s specific plan... I upgraded my wife's line (she only has the 200mb plan) and will swap phones with her, so I didn't see any effect this go around...

That makes no sense. I think the people who use too much data would be promoted to use the higher data plan, such as the $45 one, or higher. Them dropping "unlimited data plan for iPhone" and applying "unlimited data plan for iPhone 4s" is not a big deal. Chances are, when the next iPhone comes out, the same thing will happen. You will have to drop "unlimited data plan for iPhone 4s" and add "unlimited data plan for iPhone 5."
People are making this a much bigger deal than it is.

Agreed. Way to many people on here spouting BS they made up as fact today. Calm down folks. If you are going to make claims, you better be able to back it up.

I would hope so. It would suck if when the next iPhone comes out and we try to upgrade and change our data plan it says, "We're sorry, but the data plan you are currently on (Unlimited Data for iPhone 4S) is not available for iPhone 5. Please select a tiered data plan to continue the order process."

They don't force you to change anything. It's worded to confuse you to change it tho! Pretty shady, but oh well... I had to give it up for tethering.

Pretty much. AT&T is an ~EVIL~ company with their trickses and plan changes!!!11 Yet they stay with the carrier, because the other carriers will do the exact same thing.

I kinda don't agree.. they have always been phone specific.. i had unlimited for iphone last time. then unlimited for blackberry. now unlimited for iphone 4S.. so stop the conspiracy haha

----------

Did it say unlimited data for iPhone or unlimited data for iPhone 4S?

If it says unlimited data for iPhone 4S, that means it's a phone specific data plan and we won't be able to use it on the next one, most likely.
Stop with the BS.. look at your last phone invoice.. it's the same.. it's always specific.

Premier

My experience -- upgrading via Premier -- the invoice still says "Data Plan for iPhone" and doesn't mention any specific model.

I upgraded (2) phones. One was my 3GS, which had unlimited data. The other was my wife's Nokia, which had NO data plan at all.

Here is what my 3GS -> 4S upgrade said:
iPhone 4S 64GB Black $399.99
Upgrade Fee $18.00
Data Plan for iPhone $30.00
25% Service Discount -$7.50

So my "unlimited data" still says "Data Plan for iPhone", just as always. No particular iPhone model in the description. This was automatically generated during the upgrade process.

Here is what my wife's Nokia -> 4S upgrade said:
Phone/Device
iPhone 4S 32GB Black $299.99
Upgrade Fee $18.00
DataPro Personal 2GB for iPhone 4S $25.00
25% Service Discount -$6.25

So this line, which wasn't qualified for unlimited because the old phone had no data plan, required me to choose a plan. I chose the 2gb plan -- which does include the "...for iPhone 4S" terminology.

YMMV.

Weird. My upgrade from 3GS to 4S only gave me an option for Unlimited Data for iPhone 4S.

Bingo! When the iPhone 5 comes out next year, you better believe it will have LTE capabilities. That means if and when we buy the iphone 5 AT&T (And i'm sure Verizon will do this also) they will say, "Sorry you can't have the unlimited data, the iphone 5 has LTE and you need a tiered LTE phone plan"

Currently VZW has a different structure than AT&T. AT&T data plans are device specific where as VZW LTE data plan isn't. Unless VZW has a specific iPhone LTE data plan.

I can't be TOO upset if that's the case -- grandfathering everyone in to even this device is pretty awesome. I'll take an uncapped 3.5 HSPA+ device over a capped LTE device any day of the week.
