I have been eagerly and closely following along with every news update that came out about this product since it was announced in January. I have seen multiple reports on Reddit or other forums of people having ordered theirs several hours later than I did, or ordering multiple locks and received them all within the same week, meanwhile I ordered one almost immediately once they went live and still have nothing to show for it now months later. I genuinely don’t understand how that is the case. I can’t blame Home Depot for the lack of supply but I can blame them for poor order fulfillment practices.
Schlage on the other hand should have been prepared to supply more of these locks by the time it was ready to launch, or they could’ve had a more organized way for early adopters to purchase whatever limited supply they have.
As I mentioned previously, we ordered this to help out a disabled family member whose quality of life this would improve immensely, so this situation really only adds insult to injury. We were already holding out as long as possible for the product to go on sale in the first place, when it was initially only given a vague release date of “this spring”. We would have ordered it and installed it immediately in January if we could. Now it’s the summer already.
You can barely even buy scalped ones if you wanted to. People are listing them for $500+ on eBay and they’re still selling out to the point of unavailability.
At this point we had no choice but to move that person into a nursing home and the lack of this lock isn’t the sole reason for that, but it is one big reason. If they are immobile and can’t remotely let people into their house, they have no way for nurses/doctors/physical therapists/aides/etc. to enter and take care of them. What are they supposed to do, leave their house unlocked and unsecured 24/7?
There isn’t even another lock with Apple HomeKey support on the market so it’s not even like there’s a competitor or alternative option we could have gotten instead.
