Just installed mine today.

At first I was sad that the lock isn't actually using WiFi for HomeKit.

But then I realized the lock is using thread and relief washed over me in an awesome wave.

Yup confirmed Thread out of the box.

I later realized the lock will use WiFi if you sign up for Schlage's cloud service. No thanks to that.

HomeKit with Thread is fine for me.

Video of you putting your phone up to the lock to unlock OR IT DIDN"T HAPPEN!

Lol. j/k

I am jealous. I have 5 homekit schalges. I guess I will have to start replacing them one at a time.

Maybe this will FINALLY get my girlfriend to wear her watch every day.

Maybe.

I had a Bluetooth August Smart lock previously which we were beyond ready to replace. Tapping works well so far though the watch/phone animations show "Try again" even though the door unlocks successfully. In our case we generally come and go through the garage and so the tapping magnificence will rarely be used.

Will the wallet action work if you give guests access to someone NOT on your Apple Home App list of people?

I would say yes??

Sadly… no… kind of disappointed… I just got the lock and installed it this weekend, and while I do really like it, especially the ability to just bring my watch to it and unlock when my hands are full, I was fully expecting to be able to issue a “homeKey” to my house keeper as a guest, but sadly you can only do that for “residents” of your home. Kind of a let down…

This is already a dated concept. Taking your phone out and tapping your door to unlock?

When I pull in to the driveway I run a homekit scene for arriving home that does a lot more than unlock the door. But it also unlocks the door.

If for any reason I don't do that, the door unlocks with a pin code. Which is still faster than digging the phone out and hoping for that to work.

If anything, it would be better to have these "keys" features work with Apple Watch, which of course none of them do.
It does work with the watch…

Has anyone had much luck finding any of these units recently?

It seems to be continually out-of-stock at Lowes. I check online daily.

Home Depot doesn't have them. And Amazon occasionally has one for prices north of $600. I need three of them.
Sorry, no news from me. The Schlage has been a nice upgrade over the August smart lock I had.

But I wanted to say I was worried that availability problems might happen given supply chains these days. Whenever new products are announced on MacRumors I think about it and order right away instead of my normal wait and see. Schlage and Ecobee are recent examples.

We ordered one from Home Depot on day 1 within minutes of the product even going live and we still have not received it, or any idea of when we might be receiving it.

Thanks for the update.

I tried to order it the first day it went live, and all I could get was an out-of-stock message.
Yeah I ordered it at the crack of dawn cus I got an email saying it was just posted so I bought one immediately and when I looked again at noon they were gone

I have been eagerly and closely following along with every news update that came out about this product since it was announced in January. I have seen multiple reports on Reddit or other forums of people having ordered theirs several hours later than I did, or ordering multiple locks and received them all within the same week, meanwhile I ordered one almost immediately once they went live and still have nothing to show for it now months later. I genuinely don’t understand how that is the case. I can’t blame Home Depot for the lack of supply but I can blame them for poor order fulfillment practices.

Schlage on the other hand should have been prepared to supply more of these locks by the time it was ready to launch, or they could’ve had a more organized way for early adopters to purchase whatever limited supply they have.

As I mentioned previously, we ordered this to help out a disabled family member whose quality of life this would improve immensely, so this situation really only adds insult to injury. We were already holding out as long as possible for the product to go on sale in the first place, when it was initially only given a vague release date of “this spring”. We would have ordered it and installed it immediately in January if we could. Now it’s the summer already.

You can barely even buy scalped ones if you wanted to. People are listing them for $500+ on eBay and they’re still selling out to the point of unavailability.

At this point we had no choice but to move that person into a nursing home and the lack of this lock isn’t the sole reason for that, but it is one big reason. If they are immobile and can’t remotely let people into their house, they have no way for nurses/doctors/physical therapists/aides/etc. to enter and take care of them. What are they supposed to do, leave their house unlocked and unsecured 24/7?

There isn’t even another lock with Apple HomeKey support on the market so it’s not even like there’s a competitor or alternative option we could have gotten instead.

Apparently Schlage significantly underestimated demand and will be out of stock until 2023 (Per Reddit comment)

The Aqara lock also supports Homekey

I'm not sure if anyone is still paying attention to this topic, but as of today all four models (two styles, and two colors) of the Schlage Encode Plus are in-stock at Lowe's online.

One style became available about a month ago, then the other style in just one color became available the other day.

The fourth variety, which was naturally the one I wanted, became available this morning.
